Recently, we acquired Jensen Drilling bring national capabilities to GSI in the drilling, drainage, dewatering and other geotechnical and civil construction specialties that Jensen has been delivering out of Eugene, OR for more than 60 years.
We’re looking for a Fabrication Manager to lead the Jensen shop operations — not just to keep things running, but to drive a new level of precision, reliability, and scalability in how we build, maintain, and customize our fleet of heavy mobile equipment.
This role is ideal for someone who is hands-on, diagnostic-savvy, and leadership-minded—with aspirations to eventually run larger pieces of the operational aspects of the business.
Your Mission
Own the operational readiness and performance of GSI’s fabrication shop. Lead a high-impact team of welders, fabricators and technicians to deliver timely diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and custom fabrication of our specialized fleet. Instill rigorous systems, elevate talent, and shorten downtime—so our crews in the field can execute without delay.
ResponsibilitiesCore Job Focus
Manage fabrication and repair operations that include hydraulic shop, paint booth, and CNC machine shop and multiple storage areas.Direct the fabrication of custom components for drilling and stabilization equipment, adjusting quickly to field-driven changesConduct and oversee diagnostics on hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems using tools, software, and experienceLead rebuilds and component swaps for engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and control systemsMaintain tight oversight of maintenance schedules, ensuring uptime and minimizing service lagsCreate and enforce fabrication and maintenance SOPs that increase output and reduce reworkShop & Team Leadership
Supervise, coach, and raise the bar across a team of 5-8 technicians and fabricators who all have 10+ years in the industry.Prioritize safety, clean work environments, and proactive housekeeping to keep the shop inspection-readyBuild a culture of extreme ownership and accountability—everyone knows what good looks like and aims above itDevelop contingency plans for spikes in demand that outstrip current team capacityCross-Functional Collaboration
Interface daily with Field Ops, Fleet Managers, and Engineering to align fabrication with job site realitiesProvide remote troubleshooting for field crews, ensuring minimal downtime when issues arise off-siteCoordinate expedited part logistics, including overnight shipping or direct sourcing, to prevent project delays QualificationsMinimum Requirements
3–5 years of fabrication or equipment maintenance experience in a millwright or similar role2+ years in a supervisory or team leadership role building strong, positive small-team culturesProven fluency in hydraulics, diagnostics, and heavy mobile equipment repairExperience reading schematics, technical drawings, and equipment blueprintsStrong understanding and experience with a variety of fab shop tools and equipment including welders, lathes and saws.Strong commitment to safety, quality, and shop organizationStandout Qualifiers
Prior experience in custom equipment fabrication in construction, mining, or drilling sectorsWorking knowledge of CNC/manual machining (bonus)Familiarity with LEAN systems, kanban, or visual job trackingOSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certificationBilingual (Spanish/English) a plus

Competitive base salary in the $95-135,000 range. Relocation possible for the right candidate wishing to move into the Eugene area.
