Wood is currently recruiting for a Control & Instrument Designer with Fire & Gas experience to support a high-profile across projects within the UK. The Instrument Designer will join our Systems Integration team within our Digital Consulting business.
There is a requirement for hybrid working with Tuesday and Wednesday being based out of any of the following locations – Aberdeen, Glasgow or Staines. Occasional travel to the client site is also expected as required. This position will be for a minimum 4-month duration.
Please note applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

The Role
We are currently seeking experienced Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Designers to join our team, supporting a range of Automation and Controls projects. In this role, you will work closely with Instrument Design Engineers to deliver high-quality design and drafting work in line with project schedules, standards, and allocated man-hours.
You will be responsible for producing detailed instrumentation and control deliverables, including cable block diagrams, loop diagrams, termination drawings, equipment location layouts, and installation details. Your ability to solve complex technical challenges, perform site surveys, and work independently across multiple project aspects will be key to your success.
Experience with Fire and Gas (F&G) systems is essential, including the design and integration of detection and suppression systems within control and safety architectures. You should be familiar with F&G philosophies, detector layouts, cause and effect diagrams, and relevant industry standards.
