Job Description

Why Your Job is Important: As a subject matter expert in compliance, the Export Compliance Specialist assists in ensuring that the company meets its obligation to comply with all Company policies and all applicable laws and regulations.

Compliance

Ensure compliance with the EAR, ITAR, OFAC and other regulatory requirements applicable to the transactions handled by the operations teams of the districtEnsure compliance with TSA regulations

Training

Support the facilitation of the Customs Export Compliance Specialist (CECS) certification programPrepare and hold training sessions on a regular basis for export and other productsPublish Compliance Tips based on:Issues discovered during daily EDMA and monthly GATES reviewsProblems discovered during periodic team and leadership outreachesRegulatory changesSpecific customer/market needsEnsure that district employees are kept current on regulatory developmentsMonitor TSA compliance training for the district and ensure staff are completing their training in a timely mannerMaintain Dangerous Goods certificationsAssist export personnel with compliance-related questions and issues

Recordkeeping

Ensure POAs received are completed properly, updated appropriately in CLIENT, and uploaded in the POA ToolEnsure customer instructions are disseminated and stored for future reference

Penalties and Liquidated Damages

Report all penalties and liquidated damages to U.S. Export Compliance Manager

Sales/Marketing

Support sales, account management and product leaders with new business development, as neededAssist with transitioning new business, as needed

Other Products

Provide support and assistance to other products in the district to ensure their compliance with regulations and company policies and procedures. This will be under the direction of the DCM as the DCM sees fit.

Other tasks and duties as deemed appropriate by management

Please note that this role cross trains and/or rotates with Import Compliance Specialist to ensure coverage of the compliance team.

QualificationsHigh School Degree or equivalent required Passed background checkMust be 18 years of age or olderGood computer skills (Word, Excel, and familiarity with PowerPoint)Must be legally authorized to work in the United StatesMust not require future sponsorship for employment VisaMust have the ability to work overtime in support of department needsFluent in English, both written and verbalAbility to multi-task and prioritize throughout the workday while remaining focused and organizedDemonstrated ability to be pro-active in thought and actionStrong organization skillsAnalytical with strong attention to detailEffective interpersonal skills, including proven ability to listen, comprehend, effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive resultsAbility to work independently and in a collaborative team environmentWilling to pitch in and help on last minute projects or assist team membersExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Comfortable with numbers and basic mathematical skillsHas a demonstrated strong work ethic, and reliabilityComfortable working in a professional business environmentMust be able to commute to the different PHX buildings as needed.

A passion for compliance and doing the right thingA minimum of two (2) years at the CompanyDemonstrated understanding of applicable Trade Compliance laws and regulationsAbility to relate to clients, government officials and employees at all levels                                                                                                                       Strong familiarity with, and continued pursuit of proficiency in Expeditors’ operating systems, including GCI, CFIT, EDMS, ETMS, and, where applicable, third-party systems used to conduct Expeditors’ transactionsDG certification(s)Proven research, problem solving and follow-up skillsU.S. Customs Broker license - PreferredIATA/FIATA Cargo Certification - Preferred

Physical Demands

Use of standard office equipment - computer with keyboard and mouse, phone, fax/copy/scan machine, etc.  The ability to work off-siteFunctions performed primarily while seated at desk
