We are seeking an Exploration Business Development Engineer to work on our Customers Site (ESA-ESTEC) in the Netherlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into one of the most sought-after space agencies in the world.
The Community You Will Join
You will be part of Serco’s dedicated team supporting the European Space Agency’s Human and Robotic Exploration Directorate at ESTEC. Working alongside ESA experts, industry partners and innovators, you will contribute to projects that push the boundaries of space exploration, with a focus on industrial utilisation of human and automated Low Earth Orbit infrastructures. Serco has over 40 years of experience delivering specialist engineering, scientific and operational services to ESA, helping turn ambitious exploration goals into reality.

In this role, you will help bridge the gap between cutting-edge space technology and its commercial applications. Your work will directly support the development of new partnerships, services and capabilities for the International Space Station and future LEO platforms. By promoting industrial opportunities, assessing markets, and managing projects, you will help accelerate Europe’s role in the global space economy and enable innovation in areas such as crew health, performance and habitation.
As Exploration Business Development Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:
Support the implementation of industrial projects using the ISS and other human or automated LEO infrastructures.Provide technical assessments of commercial activity proposals and prepare reports for ESA boards.Assist in managing new and existing commercial partnerships for LEO utilisation and exploration.Contribute to calls for ideas, requests for information and tenders related to LEO services.Maintain and update the ESA Business in Space Growth Network web portal.Support community engagement events and digital marketing campaigns.Help deliver innovation challenges to encourage industrial participation in space projects.Monitor project progress and prepare status updates, including inputs for annual ESA reports.Support the development and scaling of new industrial capabilities in collaboration with other ESA directorates.Assess business models and plans for industrial projects. Master’s degree in Engineering.Experience managing small projects within budget and schedule.Skilled in developing and maintaining partnerships.Knowledge of LEO infrastructures, services and related markets.Familiarity with ESA’s space exploration programmes and frameworks.Experience organising technical and programme reviews.Ability to handle procurement processes such as requests for information and tenders.Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.Candidates must be EU nationals.On offer
