Experienced Associate - Investment Banking, BioPharma

Job Description:

Position Summary:

The BioPharma Group is a rapidly growing and critically important strategic initiative for Guggenheim Securities.  As our team expands, we’re looking to add mid-level bankers with scientific and investing backgrounds who will play an integral role driving content and relationships with our clients, as well as executing important strategic and financing transactions.  We currently have seven Senior Managing Directors in New York and ten total including San Francisco and London.  Our Associates benefit tremendously from the experience and partnership they have with our senior bankers and we pride ourselves on our dedication to cultivating and developing our junior and mid-level bankers.  We take a long-term view on supporting our bankers as they develop their managerial, marketing, sales, analytical, presentation, and communication skills on their path to becoming Senior Managing Directors.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead deal pitches in partnership with senior bankers, including idea generation and rationale (e.g., scientific, clinical, strategic, etc.), presentation development, and active participation in meetingsUnderwrite transaction evaluation, preparation, due diligence and execution; act as point person to coordinate client, counterparty, and internal activities; assist with transaction-related documentationIntegrate ideas derived from various analyses, forecasts, business plans, and research into presentations for various stakeholdersWork closely with client management teams through the preparation of financial projections, deal marketing materials, and other execution activitiesDevelop an internal view on evolving treatment landscapes to assess the potential impacts / opportunities within the healthcare landscapeDevelop and monitor complex financial models to help clients assess and execute broad range of strategic alternativesTrack and assess biotech equity markets and work closely with Guggenheim’s equity capital markets team to provide clients with advice on financing alternatives (timing, structure, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:

Advanced Degree including either PhD (Life Sciences) or MDExperience in life science investing (e.g., hedge fund) or equity researchCore modeling and valuation experienceAbility to communicate investment / strategic rationale for companies within biotech sectorSIE Exam, Series 79 and Series 63 must be acquired within 150 days of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

Highly organized, with the initiative and ability to work with limited supervision Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail Strong written and oral communication skills Effective process management capabilities 

Work Location 

Currently, this role is expected to be in the ­­­­New York office at least 4 days per week. 

Salary

Annual base salary between $175,000 and $225,000.The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this position. Actual base salaries may vary depending on factors such as location and experience. The range listed reflects base salary only, and the total compensation package may include other components such as incentive compensation.
