The Hartford’s Middle and Large Life Science Industry vertical is seeking an Executive Team Lead who will lead and manage our Central Division Life Science team. This dynamic and experienced leader will bring expertise to the underwriting of technology risks, including primary property and casualty, umbrella, multinational, Life Science products, excess and Cyber.
The role involves leading a team of production underwriters across multiple regional offices to manage the P&L, achieve production goals, attract, retain and develop Middle and Large Life Science underwriting talent, and assist in managing the network of distribution partners. The Central Executive Team Lead will report to the Head of Business, Life Science and will be part of the national Middle and Large Life Science Practice Leadership.
Responsibilities:
Life Science Divisional Underwriting and Product/Industry Leadership
Portfolio management and optimization of the Divisional Middle and Large Life Science book.
Sales and Marketing
Assist in the development and maintenance of the UW/RO Life Science pipeline
Assist and contribute to the national Life Science strategic framework, direction and implementation.
Foster relationships with other divisions to collaborate and cross-sell.
Assess market opportunities and generate ideas to drive new business.
Develop and implement underwriting standards, strategies, and product suites.
Underwrite Life Science business and serve as a referral resource for other Life Science underwriters.
Organize and manage all new business triage exercises and appropriate pre-renewal strategy session on existing business.
Handle referrals and provide direction on complex exposures.
Quality control and file documentation
Provide and extract Life Science subject matter expertise to/from our business partners including Global Specialty and MultiNational
Apply underwriting guidelines and have thorough knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
Distribution Management and Partnership
Manage and develop producer and client relationships.
Engage, conduct and provide coordinated and formalized training and development to all Life Science underwriters.
Consistently engage with producers, underwriters and clients to appropriately augment and market The Hartford brand and solicit market, industry and competitive intelligence.
Conduct regular business stewardship meetings with all key internal and external business constituents and stakeholders.
Leadership and Talent retention and Development
Manage underwriting resources across the division and ensure clear alignment with partner organizations and appropriate resource allocation.
Foster a high-performance culture and pipeline new talent.

Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years industry experience, with 7+ years of Life Science underwriting experience preferred.
Exceptional technical underwriting acumen and analytical skills.
Expertise in marketing and evaluating complex complex multi-line Life Science risks.
Demonstrative and proven expertise in the positioning, presentation, negotiation and closing of Life Science proposals.
Prior people leadership and management experience strongly preferred.
Inspiring presentation and marketing skills.
Thorough attention to detail and strong underwriting documentation.
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a matrixed environment.
Ability and willingness to travel ~25% of the time.
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
