About Us: Stanford RegLab is an impact lab that carries out high-impact demonstration projects of artificial intelligence and data science in the public sector. We are an interdisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists, legal experts, and social scientists who design and evaluate programs, policies, and technologies that help revitalize government and enable responsible innovation. Job Description: The Executive Director for the Regulation, Evaluation, and Governance Lab (RegLab), a full-time position, will serve as the chief staff person for the Lab, collaborating with and reporting to the Faculty Director (Professor Dan Ho) in planning, administering, and implementing the goals of the Lab. As an expert advisor and administrator, the Executive Director will work closely with the Faculty Director to lead the strategic planning for the Lab, support the Lab’s operations and initiatives, and assist in managing its financial development. The Executive Director will also help manage external University relations, the Lab’s public presence, lead development and financial management of the Lab, and manage staff to achieve the research and teaching mission, goals and objectives of the RegLab.

 

As Executive Director, you will:

 

Direct staff and provide staff leadership. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, etc. Work collaboratively with Human Resources when applicable.Represent the Lab to the broader University, external community, and other stakeholders. Work closely with the Faculty Director in the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of programmatic initiatives. This includes working with the Faculty Director to develop and pursue the direction and goals for the Lab, as well as helping to recruit, oversee and mentor lab staff.Develop business plans and Lab infrastructure in alignment with the faculty vision. Lead process improvement. Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university academic and administrative policies and procedures within the Lab. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures.Help build a successful and vibrant portfolio of research collaborations by communicating with partner organizations and providing project management and supervision support to key initiatives.Lead the strategic development plan to identify and cultivate new funding opportunities. Write proposal and research grants, as well as reports on research, programming, and outreach. Manage and coordinate grants and contracts for the department. Ensure compliance with institutional and external requirements.Oversee and/or manage the finances across all sources for the annual budget cycle, including developing, monitoring, analyzing forecasting and reporting.Work cooperatively with other law school centers and programs to advance the educational and research mission of the law school and Stanford University.Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university academic and administrative policies and procedures within an operating unit.

 

 

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience in administrative and/or financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience.

 

Strong managerial skills.

Strong commitment to mentorship and to advancing the work of RegLab.

Experience managing budgets and developing financial plans, as well as program administration and fundraising.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills including conflict resolution. Must be able to organize events, prioritize tasks, help oversee and direct staff, and meet deadlines.Excellent planning and organizational skills.Excellent communication skills, and an ability to work in a collaborative academic setting.Strong financial expertise in accounting, budget planning and financial forecasting.Strong expertise in grants and contract administration.Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.Attention to detail and accuracy.Strong analytical and problem solving skills.Strong expertise in business and management computer applications and databases.Strong knowledge of industry standards and/or regulatory requirements.Subject matter expertise for area(s) of responsibility.Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.

Additional Information

 

The expected pay range for this position is $154,698 to $197,873 per annum.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
