We are currently searching for a seasoned and strategic Executive Chef who can be part of the future of Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco.
The Role – Overview:
This vital role is part of the Food and Beverage leadership team, which collectively makes key strategic and operational decisions for the Hotel’s F&B operations. The Executive Chef oversees the smooth and efficient running of both the Kitchen and Stewarding departments, maintaining the Four Seasons standard of excellence across all culinary outlets—including the Employee Restaurant.
We are seeking individuals with a solid background in food & beverage, along with a proven track record in kitchen management within the hotel or restaurant industry. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity, vision, and the ability to provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership to their teams.
Experience working in a strong union environment is essential, including a deep understanding of union contracts and problematics. The Executive Chef must be confident navigating labor relations while fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative kitchen culture.
Candidates should also bring strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to excellence, ensuring that both guest satisfaction and operational goals are consistently met
Essential Functions:

Coordinate the selection, training, development, and evaluation of employees and managers in the Kitchen Department through effective management and leadership to ensure that established cultural and core standards are met; long-range strategic planning for outlet operation.
Effectively plan and develop menus for the hotel considering factors such as product availability, food and service cost, marketing conditions and business volume; assign prices for daily menus that result in net profit; participate in making decisions regarding printing, layout, posting, and distribution of menus while ensuring the correct preparation and presentation of a consistent level for all food items prepared through production and demonstration.
Control labor and operating expenses through effective planning, budgeting, purchasing decisions, policy making, and inventory control while focusing on creative cost control and revenue generation solutions to maximize profit in the department, division and hotel.
Ensure that sanitation standards as set forth by Four Seasons, local, state, and federal regulations are in compliance as well as the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen.
Set up control systems which will assure quality and portion consistency and the ability to create proper purchasing specifications as well as monitor and review operating criteria and develop an awareness of the importance of food preparation and quality.
Communicate with employees and managers to ensure operational needs are met as well as attend regular operational meetings to ensure effective coordination and cooperation between departments.
Comply with Four Seasons’ Category One and Category Two Work Rules and Standards of Conduct as set forth in EmPact.
Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors.
Qualifications & Experience:
Applicants are required to have a minimum of five to seven years previous experience in multiple culinary/food & beverage department head positions. Including Banquet operations as well as a proven track record in fine dining. Previous experience as an Executive Chef at high-end hotels.
Candidates with a degree in Culinary Arts, or similar, are preferred.
Skills and Abilities: Requires a working knowledge of division operations as well as Four Seasons cultural and core standards, policies, and standard operating procedures. Working knowledge is generally learned on-the-job.
Proven experience managing in a unionized environment
Requires highly developed organizational skills and strong and detailed business acumen for complex culinary operations. Requires exceptional leadership skills and creative problem-solving.
Ability to quickly and positively establish rapport is required. Above average emotional intelligence is required.
Above average communication skills - both written and oral - are required.
Current Four Seasons employees, bilingual candidates and those with prior experience in a luxury hotel/environment will receive priority consideration.
Travel required: Some travel is required for training, conferences, and special events.
What to Expect:
Salary Range: $165K to $185K
