Job Description
The Estimator will be responsible for reviewing proposal specifications, drawings, customer standards, and unit billing standards. You will attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimates. You will prepare disciplined estimates by calculating the complete take-off of the scope of work and preparing breakdowns. Provide estimate information to the Project Manager. Estimate types include unit price, lump sum, and T&E. You will build and update compatible unit values, and upload estimates in estimating/project management software following work breakdown structure processes. Additionally, you will obtain feedback from general foreman/management and work with accounting and management to update customer T&E rates.
ResponsibilitiesReview proposal specifications, drawings, and customer standards to determine scope of work.Attend pre-bid meetings to gather necessary information for estimates.Prepare disciplined estimates, including breakdowns of scope of work.Provide estimate information to Project Manager.Build or update compatible unit values.Upload estimates in estimating/project management software.Obtain feedback from general foreman/management.Collaborate with accounting and management to update customer T&E rates.Understand union labor agreements for developing labor rates.Improve and update computer-estimating systems.Submit bids and proposals after approval.Introduce cost-saving ideas through redesign and Value Engineering opportunities.Essential SkillsAt least three years of experience as an estimator in a utility construction company.Proficiency in project management and construction management.Experience with utility estimating software and bidding.Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings and project documents.Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and basic navigation of Access or similar project management software.Knowledge of standard safety procedures.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School education required.Two-year technical degree preferred or equivalent experience.Estimating experience preferred but not required.Positive safety attitude and personal integrity.Ability to think conceptually and apply practical solutions.Self-starting capabilities and solid work ethic.Decisive and assertive communication skills.High attention to detail and procedural adherence.Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental, and construction domains.Work Environment
The work environment involves using advanced estimating and project management software. You will work closely with management and foremen in a collaborative setting. The role requires a strong adherence to safety standards and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment. You will primarily work in an office setting but may occasionally visit project sites for drive-thru feedback and pre-bid meetings.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $53.00/hr.
