Purpose of the role:
ESG Senior Internal Control Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive ESG internal control framework that contributes to ensuring integrity, accuracy, and reliability of reported ESG metrics.
This role is responsible for assessing developments in the ESG risk landscape and translating these into risks and controls. Acting as the designated representative of the global internal control function within the ESG Task Force, this role will provide expertise integrating ESG metrics into overall internal control framework and partner with relevant workforce stream in advising the business to streamline and harmonize processes applied for collection, consolidation and reporting of ESG metrics.
Your responsibilities:
Design and maintain an effective and efficient internal control framework tailored to cover risks associated with collection, consolidation and reporting of ESG metrics.
Develop and maintain an ICS ESG roadmap outlining the short-, medium-, and long-term actions required to establish a robust internal control environment over processes to collect and consolidate ESG metrics; define clear milestones, deliverables, and timelines for implementing ESG internal controls.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Global Sustainability, Finance, Procurement, HR, IT) to align the ESG Internal Control Roadmap with the overall ESG roadmap and reporting objectives/prioritization.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented ESG controls and recommend improvements.
Promote awareness of ESG controls across the organization through training and guidance for process owners, control owners, data providers and other key stakeholders
Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and assurance providers on matters related to internal controls over ESG data and reporting (including co-ordinate preparation and delivery of documentation, process flowcharts, control evidence)
Serve as the formal representative of the global internal control function within the ESG Task Force.
Provide subject matter expertise on internal control requirements and collaborate with relevant workstream teams to ensure internal controls are integrated in business processes applied for collection, consolidation and reporting of ESG metrics.
Advise on improving processes for ESG data collection, consolidation, and reporting; identify gaps and propose solutions to streamline and standardize processes for collecting and reporting of ESG data, leveraging technology where possible and applicable.
Establish and maintain a structured process to continuously monitor global ESG regulatory developments, reporting standards, and emerging best practices relevant to internal controls and ESG disclosures.
Collaborate with Governance & Frameworks lead to support in driving awareness of control responsibilities and support ongoing training efforts.
Participate and support in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of ESG reporting tools and provide internal control requirements to ensure proper controls are embedded in system configuration.
Engage with other companies and in industry forums and webinars (offered by consulting companies) to stay informed about leading ESG practices and control approaches.
Our requirements:
Minimum 4-5 years in Internal or External Audit or Risk Management (experience in related strategy & governance roles in other companies is desired).
Deep understanding of internal control frameworks and ability to develop and implement effective ESG controls.
Strong understanding of ESG frameworks and reporting requirements, such as Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards and EU Taxonomy.
Experience in conducting ESG reporting risk assessments is highly desirable.
Experience in developing plans and roadmaps, including prioritization and stakeholder alignment.
Experience in contributing to process enhancement and automation initiatives, e.g., data collection, consolidation and reporting processes.
Proficiency with relevant tools (e.g., SharePoint, GRC platforms, Microsoft Suite)
Technical knowledge and familiarity with tools (e.g., Workiva, Schneider Electrics, OneTrust, SAP Sustainability Tower) used in ESG area is highly desirable
Effective communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging and aligning stakeholders across levels and functions.
Ability to work constructively across different Group functions and hierarchies.
Project management, ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple internal control initiatives simultaneously.\
Fluent English language skills
Other languages e.g. German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Mandarin, are an advantage.
Ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
Adaptability to hybrid work model - 2 days weekly office presence.
