Patient Access Representative – Emergency Department Schedule: 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM or 5:00 PM – 1:30 AM (Occasional overnight shifts preferred) Department: Emergency Room (ED) Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Access Representative to join our fast-paced Emergency Department team. This role is ideal for individuals with exceptional customer service skills who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about helping patients. No prior healthcare experience is required, but comfort in a hospital and emergency room setting is essential. Key Responsibilities: + Perform patient registration and basic insurance verification, ensuring collection of 7 critical data elements for accurate identification and billing. + Update patient demographic information in the ADT system per departmental policies. + Interpret physician orders to determine appropriate testing or admission criteria. + Coordinate patient admissions and bed assignments to ensure timely placement. + Identify non-participating insurance plans and communicate options to patients and physicians, including appointment cancellations if necessary. + Obtain and validate insurance information via EMR, transfer documentation, or eligibility tools. + Provide courteous and accurate information and wayfinding assistance to patients, families, and visitors. + Prepare and scan documents into the electronic patient record. + Explain forms and processes to patients, ensuring proper signatures and witnessing. + Assemble and disassemble patient charts and departmental documents as needed. + Copy and fax documents to ancillary departments or physician offices. + Maintain inventory of forms and paper supplies. + Assist with resolving patient account balances and inquiries. Qualifications: + Strong customer service orientation with a desire to help others. + Comfortable standing and walking for 10–12 hours per shift. + Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. + Willingness to work in an Emergency Room setting, including exposure to injuries and medical situations. + Excellent communication and organizational skills. + Ability to collaborate effectively with RNs, physicians, and other hospital staff. Preferred Skills: + Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting + Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and insurance verification tools. (EPIC) Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
