General Responsibilities: • Operates, repairs, and maintains a water distribution system. • Operates heavy equipment including but not limited to: dump truck, vactor truck, pumper truck, skid steer, aerial lifts, truck mounted crane. • Performs routine laboratory tests. • Understands and carries out oral and written directions • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work Specific Responsibilities: • Performs any combinations of following tasks pertinent to water distribution system maintenance: • Assist in repairing water leaks • Flow test hydrants • Tests and repair backflow preventers • Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels • Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings • Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control • Starts and stops pump, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes • Takes samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses • Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties • Operates and takes care of heavy equipment to properly maintain the water distribution system • Does related work as required • 1 to 2 years experience water distribution systems • Possess a valid CDL • Operator certification at a level required by the State and the project. • Basic familiarity of the operations and maintenance principles of water distribution systems Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: • Must be able to transport self over plant facility • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs • Must be able to lift bags weighing up to 40 pounds each from floor level to waist high • Must be able to bend frequently to collect samples • Must be able to use power tools and equipment when operating and maintaining a water distribution system Safety is a core value at Jacobs. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals.
