Yes County Schenectady Street Address Statewide Administration/ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 328 State Street City Schenectady State NY Zip Code 12305 Duties Description Under the direction of the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO), the Equal Opportunity Specialist 2, SG-23 will have deep knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices to help shape and implement the Board's vision of a respectful and inclusive agency. The candidate will work with the CDO to develop inclusive policies and programs that embrace diversity in all forms. The candidate will assist in the implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of diversity and inclusion initiatives and equal opportunity activities. The candidate will work closely with the CDO and the Board leadership team to advance the Board's DEI goals. Duties will include but are not limited to:• Serving as one of the Board's DEI specialists and working with the CDO and leadership team to ensure alignment and focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the Board.• Serving as the Board's Designee for Reasonable Accommodation (DRA).• Assisting the CDO to integrate DEI into core decisions throughout the organization and apply a DEI lens to all aspects of the work.• Serving as the Vice-Chair of the Board's DEI Council, tasked with providing recommendations to the CDO and the Board's Executive Team, as well as supporting and delivering guidance to the agency's workforce to improve the work climate, foster employee engagement, and enhance professional development in DEI.• Working with the Public Information Office to prepare the agency's DEI communications (internal and external) and provide relevant educational materials and training opportunities to educate employees and managers on how to recognize, accommodate, and leverage difference. • Coordinating the implementation of the 5-year DEI Strategic Plan consistent with the guidelines developed by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion Management at the NYS Department of Civil Service.• Assisting the CDO in the Board's work of supporting Executive Orders 187: Diversity and Inclusion and Combating Harassment and Discrimination in the Workplace. • Promoting an inclusive, respectful, and equitable work environment by assessing organizational culture and barriers to diversity, then planning and implementing initiatives to create positive organizational changes conducive to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.• Identifying external trends and best practices in DEI for Board consideration. Recommending, and implementing practices, policies and programming that promote a culture that fosters DEI. • Serving as a change agent to provide solutions, strategies, resources, and training on DEI topics. • Monitoring progress and measuring the effectiveness of the Board's DEI strategy to determine progress and identify gaps. Analyze results to identify strategies to strengthen programs. • Collaborating with Human Resources and each division to identify diverse recruiting options. Review all aspects of the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes to ensure that diversity and inclusion efforts are an ingrained part of how we attract, onboard, retain, and promote a diverse workforce. o Conducting special recruitment efforts for protected class members to increase representation and remove barriers that limit the professional development of protected class members.o Assessing all proposed interview questions to ensure they meet the appropriateness standards and do not infringe on any individual's rights or personal privacy.o Reviewing all candidate nomination packages for hiring and promotion to ensure fairness and equity.o Participating in examination planning to ensure that equal opportunity is considered.o Sharing job postings of non-competitive and exempt positions with various diverse groups.• Representing the Board at various meetings, career fairs, conferences on DEI and equal opportunity. Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Seven years of experience* in equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, or human rights; OR one year of State service in an equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, minority business, employment compliance, human resources, or training position allocated at or above Grade 18.*Qualifying experience includes working with organizations concerned with equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, civil rights, minority business development, or similar programs; or in recruiting, training, and upgrading the educational and job qualifications of protected class members.
