Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an energetic, dedicated person to fill the role of Environmental Field Technician I for employment in the Birmingham, AL office to assist with projects at the Gorgas Steam Plant.  This position would be reporting under AECOM’s Environmental team in Birmingham, which carries out environmental site assessment and remediation work both inside and outside the region.

The successful candidate will support various projects conducting remedial oversight, routine field monitoring, and soil sampling activities. Conducting field work is an integral component of this position and it is important that the applicant must be willing to travel, including extended travel, when necessary.

The job responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:

• Performs routine fieldwork as a trainee (such as environmental sampling, assisting with calculations, and operations, maintenance and inspection of equipment of client site), working under close supervision. 
• Performs routine tasks in support of project staff and handles less complex duties. 
• Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

HS + 0 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationValid US Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must pass the AECOM Motor Vehicle screening

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1+ years of experience with mechanical equipment operation and maintenance1+ years of experience in soil and groundwater sampling techniques; and applicable laboratory analytical methodsCurrent 40-hr HazWOPER Certification and associated refresherCurrent First Aid, CPR and AED certificationStrong understanding of project documentation requirements including taking organized and detailed field notes, recording observations
