Environmental Technician
Job Title: Environmental Technician Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Technician to perform essential duties related to hazardous materials management. This role involves segregation and lab packing of chemicals or waste following strict guidelines, regulations, and protocols. Your work will contribute significantly to maintaining a safe environment through the proper handling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous substances. Responsibilities + Segregate and lab pack chemicals or waste in accordance with company guidelines, EPA, DOT regulations, and disposal site protocols. + Pour off/consolidate flammable, combustible, corrosive, and toxic materials. + Conduct hazardous waste pickups at customer locations. + Prepare daily written field reports. + Perform deliveries and pickups of drums or various job-related supplies. + Load trucks for the next day's operations and restock used PPE, kits, and equipment. + Conduct chemical relocation and laboratory decontamination. + Respond to emergency incidents involving hazardous materials, performing risk analysis to determine boundaries/zones, and select proper personal protective equipment. + Mitigate, clean up, and package hazardous materials per protocols. Essential Skills + 1+ year experience driving a truck and working inside labs/hospitals. + Proficiency in handling pharmaceutical waste, bio-waste, light tubes, and mercury. + Experience driving box trucks. + Knowledge in chemistry, hazardous waste, and hazardous materials packing, labeling, disposal, and transportation. + Knowledge of DOT/EPA/OSHA/RCRA regulations. + Ability to work 40-50 hours per week and be on call 24/7 for emergency spill response. + Proficiency in English written and reading. + Capability to handle and move drums of at least 250/450 pounds and stand for 8 hours per day. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Mechanically inclined and able to maintain lab equipment. + Experience with OSHA 10, OSHA 40, and HAZWOPER certifications. + Ability to operate tools and equipment safely. + Maintain a professional image. + Pass pre-employment drug testing, background check, and DOT/medical physical before hire. Work Environment Work in hospitals, labs, and deliver to warehouses. The role requires handling and transporting hazardous materials, which involves driving box trucks and adhering to safety regulations. You will have the opportunity to grow within the company, advancing from Field Technician to Hazmat Technician and eventually Field Chemist. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
