**Job Description:**
Parsons is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented **Terrestrial Eoclogist** **/GIS Technician** to join our Energy and Environment team. This position will **focus** **on** **preparing arborist reports,** **reviewing** **and summarizing tree inventory** **data** **and** **utilizing** **Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS** **Pro),** **to support planning and design of infrastructure projects.** Occasional field work may be required. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ecology, namely tree identification, report writing, data interpretation and visualization.
**What** **You’ll** **Be Doing:**
+ Prepare arborist reports that include recommendations for tree care, preservation, and management.
+ Utilize ArcGIS Pro to analyze spatial data, create maps, and manage ecological datasets.
+ Collaborate with project teams to integrate tree inventory data into broader ecological and environmental assessments.
+ Coordinate and assist in managing field work and
+ Conduct comprehensive tree inventories, including species identification, health assessments, and measurements.
+ Aid in the coordination and management of fieldwork activities, ensuring efficient scheduling, resource allocation, and adherence to safety protocols.
+ Manage project deliverables to meet both internal and external stakeholder timelines and deadlines.
+ Occasional fieldwork in various environments, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to safety protocols.
+ Communicate findings and recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and team members through written reports and presentations.
+ Stay current on industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies in arboriculture and GIS.
+ Other duties as required
**What Required Skills** **You’ll** **Bring:**
+ Diploma or bachelor's degree (or higher) in Ecosystem Restoration, Ecology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Arboriculture, or a related field.
+ 2+ years of experience in tree inventories, arborist reporting, or related work.
+ Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), with hands-on experience using ArcGIS Pro.
+ Strong knowledge of tree species identification, health assessment, and arboricultural practices (winter tree identification an asset)
+ Proven ability to coordinate fieldwork and manage project deliverables to meet deadlines.
+ Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
+ Knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal regulations related to trees in Ontario.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Familiarity with GPS data collection, and spatial analysis.
+ Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle.
+ The ability to work on out-of-town assignments.
**What Desired Skills** **You’ll** **Bring:**
+ Certification as an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist is preferred or the qualifications to obtain the certification within 1 year of employment.
