DEADLINE TO APPLY: AUGUST 1, 2025 MINIMUM SALARY: $26,819 Role and Responsibilities Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled work in the collection and processing of recyclable materials and maintenance of all county owned parks and recreational areas. Position requires the ability to maintain records and complete reports in accordance with state regulations. Will be responsible for working with and supervising a small inmate work crew in performance of all duties. This position is funded, at least partially, by grant funds and is subject to available funding. Essential Job Functions Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provides daily pickup and processing of recyclable materials including but not limited to (cardboard, office waste, aluminum cans, newspapers and plastics) throughout the confines of Jackson County. Safely operates trucks that require a class – B driver’s license, pick-up trucks, tractors, forklifts, front-end loaders, mowers and other lawn equipment and performs semi-skilled work in landscape maintenance and policing grounds. Performs semi-skilled to skilled work in the maintenance of buildings and equipment, including repairing park equipment, and simple housekeeping maintenance tasks such as light bulb replacement, painting and cleaning of facilities. Performs minor maintenance on all power equipment including trucks, forklift, front-end loader, balers and hand tools, including sharpening blades, cleaning filters, adding grease, oil and gas, etc. Conducts exotic plant removal, erosion control and other related environmental protection tasks. Follows and enforces established procedures and policies. Enforce and maintain boating and equipment safety guidelines. Performs other job-related functions as required. Qualifications and Education Requirements Graduation from high school and some experience driving a vehicle with a manual transmission, pulling and backing trailers. Two years’ experience in building trades, landscaping, recreation or maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. This position is subject to pre-employment and continuous drug-screenings. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license, CDL preferred. Must be able to obtain and maintain a certification from the Florida Department of Corrections to work state inmates within one year of employment. Basic first responder skills in CPR and first aid preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the operation of pickup truck-trailer and heavy trucks. Knowledge of the operation of a forklift and skid loader. Knowledge of mowers, chain saws, trimmers, edger and other lawn maintenance related equipment. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the proper safety precautions involved in operating heavy motorized equipment. Ability to perform maintenance of assigned vehicles and other equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of landscaping maintenance work and other trades required of this position. Knowledge of the methods and practices employed in the maintenance of playgrounds, athletic fields, parks and related facilities. Knowledge of the practices, procedures, materials and equipment used in the plumbing, carpentry and electrical trades. Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools and equipment necessary to perform landscape installation and facility maintenance tasks. Ability to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and application of work standards to daily departmental operations. Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in contact with the public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to effectively supervise inmate work crews in accordance with regulations. Ability to operate a forklift, skid loader and perform other related duties. Additional Requirements Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate automatic or manual shift pickup or larger truck pulling a trailer and a variety of equipment including forklifts, front-end loaders, balers, tractors, lawn mowers, chain saws, string trimmers, hand tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 35 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 15 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other part of body and to physically maneuver over and/or upon varying terrain, surfaces or physical structures. Physical demand requirements are those for Medium to Heavy work. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence. Requires the ability to compose and develop written correspondence in the English language following established grammatical rules. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to exercise verbal tact. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilized mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination Color Discrimination: Does not require the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing calmly under stress and when confronted with persons who are acting under stress. Must be able to perform multiple tasks with simultaneous demands under conditions of stress. Physical Communications: Does not require the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
