The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection to promote and protect health, safety, and welfare. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) is seeking a visionary data systems expert to serve as the technical authority for Underground Storage Tank (UST) program data. If you’re fluent in both environmental regulations and database architecture—and thrive at the intersection of IT strategy and public service—this is your chance to shape how critical environmental data is collected, managed, and leveraged. As the trusted advisor to executive leadership, you’ll design and implement the systems that power UST prevention and corrective action across Louisiana. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus four years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), OR laboratory auditing; OR A master’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus three years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR A doctorate in any of the qualifying educational fields plus two years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing. Supplemental Qualifications: Two years of scientific/technical environmental experience at or above the Environmental Scientist 3 level in the evaluation of Underground Storage Tank systems and/or releases from these systems through the performance of UST compliance inspections, investigations or site remediation. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: This position serves as the expert technical advisor to executive management for all activities regarding management of Underground Storage Tank (UST) data and data systems. The incumbent must have experience and working knowledge in UST prevention and corrective action statutes, rules, and regulations to determine requirements for UST data, data flow and databases. The incumbent must possess an information technology background and be experienced in managing the flow of data from collection to reporting. The incumbent must have experience with various Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) databases that support the UST prevention and corrective action programs.
