Job Overview The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining safe working conditions at a mid to large sized pharmaceutical company to ensure that all activity is compliant with state and federal safety regulations. Duties of the EHS Coordinator include enforcing company health and safety policies and programs, inspecting workspaces and processes to ensure they are up to safety standards, and developing and providing workplace safety training. Responsibilities Will train employees in EHS programs and procedures for office, warehouse, laboratory, pilot-scale manufacturing, and commercial-scale manufacturing settings. Performs job hazard assessments on conditions and tasks in warehouses, manufacturing, packaging, laboratories, and office environments. Manage a Small Quantity Generator (SQG) hazardous waste generation program and lead the transition to Large Quantity Generator (LQG) status. Manage the wastewater treatment program, overseeing all of the required testing, reporting, and permit activities. Routinely audits work conditions and practices to ensure all products and activities are compliant with EHS regulations, guidelines, and best practices. Oversees storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials and equipment. Writes and delivers reports detailing EHS activities and processes. Suggests revisions to production methods and employee activities that do not meet EHS regulatory requirements or expose employees or the company to an unacceptable risk. Provides quarterly updates to senior site management on the state of control of the facility with regards to safety, environment, and health. Leads the selection and implementation of safety equipment and supplies for workplace. Stays up to date on new state and federal EHS regulations. Runs emergency drills to measure employee readiness. Develops and implements new safety procedures in collaboration with site management. Addresses any workplace related EHS issues and coordinates incident and corrective and preventative action investigation. Works with management in support of accident investigations and company return to work policy. Works with management to address any EHS-related compliance issues and lawsuits. Qualifications - Skills & Requirements Understanding and experience with RCRA,DEP and DOT regulations for the accumulation and disposal of hazardous waste for at least a SQG site is required. Certification will be provided if not current. Familiarity with current OSHA requirements for laboratory, warehouse (warehouse equipment), and manufacturing operations is required. Ideally familiar with current standards and expectations for control of contractors and vendors to support safety of ongoing construction projects. Experienced with management of a respiratory protection program is necessary. Experience with PAPRs for protection from chemical and particulate hazards is a plus. Familiarity with NJ wastewater treatment and discharge practices and regulations is a plus. Previous experience with active pharmaceutical risk assessment and categorization using Safebridge principals are a plus. Demonstrates broad knowledge of state and federal safety guidelines for the workplace. Exhibits knowledge of appropriate emergency protocols. Demonstrates familiarity with job site equipment and products. Is proficient in the use of Work, Excel, and PowerPoint. Possesses strong writing and verbal communication skills. Education & Experience OSHA training/ understanding. 1-2 plus years of work experience in the health and safety field. Compensation Min USD $65,000.00/Yr. Max USD $75,000.00/Yr. Physical Requirements OFFICE POSITION - While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to: • Stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work • Light to moderate lifting is required • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic). • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time Sedentary work Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
