Job Description

This role is on day shift, 9AM-5PM Monday through Friday and requires you to be onsite at the facility. 

The EHS Specialist will lead the enhancement of the manufacturing site's environment, health, and safety culture by performing a variety of activities across multiple shifts.

POSITION DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

EHS Standards & Integrated Management System 

Assists in the implementation of company EHS standards and facility-specific procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

Participates in the development of EHS standard components, risk assessment and controls, work instructions and training materials

Leads the integration of company and facility level EHS management system elements to maintain regulatory compliance, environmental protection and safe operating conditions.

Reporting & Documentation

Reduces liability within the facility and ensures all safety and environmental risk recommendations are completed and documented.

Compiles, maintains and updates safety information for each covered process, ensuring employees & management have accessibility to the information.

Tracks and regularly reports the status of regulatory compliance and improvement initiatives.

Maintains OSHA 300 log, 300a, 301’s, and all other governmental and corporate database records.

Tracks air emissions and maintains Title V permit records.

Training, Resource & Counsel

Serves as a resource to the site manager regarding EHS matters and acts as a daily point of contact for all EHS issues. Assists employees and leadership with understanding OSHA/EPA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling OSHA/EPA compliance, inspections, and NOVs.

Responsible for site’s injury prevention program

Develops, facilitates and updates EHS education and training to support regulatory and business requirements.

Acts as a resource and mentor to the facility safety team.

Investigates near misses and workplace incidents to determine root cause.  Recommends behavioral, environmental or engineering improvements to prevent future or duplicate incidents.

Coordinate employee care and workers’ compensation claims with the Sr. Regional Occupational Health Nurse.

 

Compliance & Safety Programs

Leads the management of risk identification and mitigation including JSAs/JHAs, PPE assessments, change management programs, and audit/inspection programs.

Maintains the facility's permit compliance records or Title V and stormwater. Reviews Federal, State, and local regulation changes that impact permits and permit compliance.

Identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices, develops hazard control practices and programs, and maintains the site’s SDS system.

Reviews proposed MOCs and approves them from a safety/environmental perspective. Works closely with the Engineering and Maintenance departments to ensure the safety/environmental compliance of projects and equipment.

Manage industrial hygiene program. Maintain and calibrate industrial hygiene testing equipment. Coordinate and conduct periodic industrial hygiene monitoring of noise and air quality.

Reviews plant incident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.

Conducts periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure conformance to appropriate safety and sanitary standards and regulations.

Assures that all modifications to existing PSM-covered processes must undergo a pre-safety start-up review, change management, and a process hazard analysis. Makes themselves available 24/7 to assist in the investigation of incidents, address employee concerns, and audit safety compliance.  

Continuous Improvement and Sustainability

Use CI methodology to drive improvements in Environmental and Safety programs. Engineer solutions to occupational exposures. Drive continuous improvement and deliver strong results from behavioral-based processes.

Evaluates new environmental, health, and safety technologies and processes to develop strategies and tactics for reducing workplace and operational hazards and environmental impacts.

Collaborative Decision-Making

Works with peers and leadership to shape and execute initiatives but defers to manager for final decisions on high risk and policy items.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering/science, or a related field is preferred.

5 years of EHS experience with progressive work assignments. Advanced professional certification, e.g., ASP, CHMM, etc., is desired.

Effective working knowledge of regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, NFPA) is required.

Experience in life safety codes, HAZWOPER, training, principles of occupational safety and health, and Industrial hygiene.

Effective project management and problem-resolution skills.

Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and function-specific software.

Strategic thinking with strong leadership skills, effective written and verbal communication, strong coaching, facilitating and training skills, ability to influence.

Under minimal supervision and in accordance with established procedures, performs work that is complex and varied in nature, requiring detailed evaluation, originality, or ingenuity.

Ability to teach, train, and speak to large, multifunction groups within varying levels of the company  

Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 20 pounds; comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures, chemicals, and noise levels.

Pay range based on experience: $65,100 - $86,800

Onsite position, no relocation will be offered at this time.
