Environmental Area Manager
Carmeuse Americas
**Responsibilities**
+ Responsible for ensuring a safe work environment in the execution of all duties and activities.
+ Understand technical aspects of operations and provide technical support on permitting and regulatory obligations to operations and other departments.
+ Plan and conduct operations to enable Carmeuse to meet business objectives efficiently and avoid disruption to the business including, but not limited to permit/plan administration, water usage record administration, water sampling, opacity readings, internal/external reporting, GHG audit, stack testing, alternative fuel sourcing/permitting, inspections and communications, etc.
+ Avoid unexpected costs arising from environmental obligations.
+ Work with operations and engineering to understand process emissions and develop data.
+ Interact with government environmental personnel.
+ Engage outside consultants to conduct environmental testing as required
+ Report to government agencies as required for emissions, water usage, compliance, deviation, TRI, etc.
+ Maintain Environmental Management System and support environmental initiatives.
+ Perform environmental audits and provide environmental training.
+ Be contact person for neighbor relations and assist with the development of public relations strategies.
+ Meetings and conference calls as necessary for environmental practices standardization and continuous improvement.
+ Possible property and Asset management obligations.
+ Perform as an active member and in the Area Operations management team and play a key role in the area’s management review process
+ Communicate best practices across the region and share these best practices with peers across North America.
+ Travel to all facilities within Canada and the US to assist and provide leadership in Environmental programs and initiatives.
+ Ensure contractors comply with all Carmeuse and government regulations while on company property
**Requirements**
+ Related Bachelor of Science Degree or Engineering degree
+ 5+ years environmental experience in either heavy industry or mining, while containing a broad knowledge of Environmental Laws and Regulations
+ Strong computer skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Internet skills
+ Ability to travel up to 40% (Remote working also available)
+ Must be able to travel to the United States, as needed
+ Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
+ Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
+ Demonstrated history of continually improving technical & professional skills (involved in attending workshops, seminars, etc. in environmental management, and professional development)
+ Ability to work closely with plant managers, staff members, supervisors, team leaders, hourly associates, contractors, and federal/state regulators; effectively support and communicate environmental performance and reporting needs to all levels of plant and corporate management
