GFT is seeking an Inspector - Roadway to join our Construction Services team in New York, NY. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity to lead roadway-related transportation projects, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in the field.

What you’ll be challenged to do:
As an Inspector on roadway projects, you will support field operations by visiting construction sites to observe and document contractor activities, helping ensure work complies with project requirements. You will assist with maintaining project records, tracking quantities for payment estimates, and coordinating with the inspection team. This role offers hands-on experience in transportation construction and contributes to meaningful projects that enhance mobility and infrastructure in New York.
In the capacity, you will be responsible for the following:
Support the inspection of contractor work on roadway and bridge construction projects to verify compliance with project plans and specifications.Assist senior inspectors and engineers in documenting daily construction activities, field conditions, and contractor operations.Perform basic field measurements, testing, and observations under supervision.Maintain accurate project logs, photographs, and inspection reports.Monitor work zones to verify safety practices are being followed and report any issues.Communicate observations and questions to the inspection team and project leadership.Help review material deliveries, equipment use, and crew activities for reporting purposes.Coordinate with team members to review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs.Observe site conditions for changes or issues that require escalation.Provide general assistance with administrative tasks, document control, and field office organization. What you will bring to our firm:One of the following:Minimum of 1-3+ years of experience in transportation construction inspectionEagerness to learn; ability to follow direction, document field conditions, and perform measurements and testing under supervisionOSHA 10 certification What you will bring to our firm:ACI, NACE, or other applicable certifications a plusPrior experience with NYSDOT, NYSTA, MTA Bridges and Tunnels, or Metro-North Railroad projectsFamiliarity with NYSDOT specifications, concrete/asphalt placement, earthwork, drainage, and structural inspections; able to work independently and report accuratelyWorking knowledge of Project Management Procedures (PMPs) and Project Management Guidelines (PMGs)Valid driver’s licenseCompensation:The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $90,000 per year. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
