Engineering Technician IV

This is a waterfront shipboard construction and re-modernization position, working within shipyards and drydocks onboard U.S. Naval ships. The incumbent will be working in varying temperatures of high heat in the summer and cold in the winter preforming the following tasks:

We are looking for an Engineering Technician III that will provide support on GDIT’s SACSS program supporting the USN on the waterfront. Each program develops, delivers, and sustains communications, electronics and combat systems with proven capability and reliability, arming the warfighter with the technology to succeed in every mission and return home safely. Must be able to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling materials for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position. Attention to safety is critical.

Key Responsibilities:

Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, troubleshoots, modifies, constructs and tests various types of electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment and related devices.

Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles to put equipment in operational condition and solve complex problems.

Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions using specialized test and diagnostic equipment.

Perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of shipboard engineering systems

Support installation and testing of new or upgraded mechanical and electrical systems in accordance with U.S. Navy modernization plans.

Use schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to inspect, evaluate, and certify system functionality.

Interface with Navy personnel, engineers, and other contractors to ensure all work aligns with ship specifications and NAVSEA standards.

Document work completed, record test results, and prepare technical reports using Navy-approved documentation systems (e.g., ICAPS, 3M, or NMD).

Participate in sea trials, dock trials, or ship checks to validate system performance in operational conditions.


 

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED; technical training or associate degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or similar preferred.

Minimum 5 years of experience in shipboard systems maintenance or naval engineering support.

Hands-on familiarity with U.S. Navy platforms (e.g., DDG, LCS, CVN, LPD, etc.).

Strong understanding of shipboard engineering systems including pumps, compressors, valves, turbines, diesel or gas turbine engines, generators, and related control systems.

U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior U.S. Navy experience (e.g., Machinist's Mate (MM), Gas Turbine Systems Technician (GSM), Engineman (EN), or equivalent).

NAVSEA/NAVY AIT (Alteration Installation Team) or Regional Maintenance Center (RMC) experience.

Proficiency in using Navy maintenance and logistics software tools.

OSHA 10/30 Maritime certification or NAVSEA Basic/Advanced Safety Training.

Familiarity with QA Level I or other Navy QA standards.
