Duties include filing, drafting, and reviewing and producing documents such as plans and specifications, contracts, pay estimates, change orders, correspondence, and reports, as well as routing, copying, and distributing documents. Applicant will aid in researching information for special projects and reports, maintaining vehicles and equipment, and will provide technical assistance to the field staff as required. In state travel is required, and computer skills in AutoCAD, Windows and Microsoft Office are a must. Experience with Revit or Civil 3D is a plus. Applicants must meet or exceed these qualifications : The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; or GED. Associate’s degree in an engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, chemical) or a related field may be required. Preferred Requirements : Three years of experience in drafting or construction related jobs. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee. Position Information Job Series:Trades – Applied Trades Classification:Engineering Specialist Class Code:TAT03I Pay Grade:SGS05 Salary Range:$47,397 – $70,148 Job Summary The Engineering Specialist is a support role within an engineering division, designed for individuals launching their careers in the field. In this classification, the candidate works under the supervision of senior engineers and project managers, assisting with technical tasks, data collection, project documentation, and preliminary design work. The role is structured as a learning experience, where on-the-job training and mentorship are provided to help develop fundamental engineering skills. The Engineering Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that essential engineering projects run efficiently and meet quality and safety standards while building a strong foundation for future growth in the engineering profession. Primary Responsibilities Assist in gathering field data for engineering studies by using both manual and electronic survey devices. Help with collecting and analyzing measurements, technical data, and other essential parameters required by engineering projects. Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating project specifications and design documents. Collaborate with senior engineers to support preliminary design, calculations, and feasibility studies. Help manage project schedules by tracking progress and reporting on milestones or delays. Operate engineering software, such as computer-aided design programs, to modify or create technical drawings. Assist in data entry and maintaining electronic records of project details and engineering computations. Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to solving technical challenges. Knowledge and Skills Demonstrates the ability to analyze data, interpret technical information, and support engineering decisions. Capable of documenting processes clearly and communicating technical details effectively to both technical and non-technical team members. Works collaboratively in a dynamic team environment, offering support and seeking guidance as needed. Ensures accuracy in measurements, calculations, and documentation which is critical to maintaining quality standards. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED.
