Engineering Manager - Product Platform

We’re here to share the buzz of creating something awesome that works like a charm and to turn everyday individuals into makers. **What you’ll do:** + Lead and expand one of Make's engineering teams, currently consisting of ten software engineers. + The team provides essential underlying services, such as Roles and Permissions systems, crucial for every other product team at Make. Additionally, the team is developing Make's capabilities to serve larger and more mature customers. + This is a highly technical role. You will navigate a complex technical environment with multiple teams relying on your team’s functionality. While you will not be writing code, your deep understanding of backend engineering will be vital. + You will also collaborate closely with product managers, playing a crucial role in defining your team's priorities and technical direction. The split between technical and product work will be approximately 50/50. + Drive the modernization of several services that handle thousands of API calls per second. This involves enhancing an existing system rather than building from scratch. + You will not be alone. You will work closely with a dedicated Product Manager and UX Designer to shape the vision and strategy for your product area. + Manage and mentor software engineers, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment. + You will have a lot of fun at work, too **Our Tech stack** + ⚙️ Back-end: Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elasticsearch + Front-end: Angular, TypeScript, Redux, Web Components, Canvas, Nx + ☁️ Infra: Amazon AWS, Docker, Kubernetes + CI/CD: GitHub, CircleCI, ArgoCD + Monitoring: DataDog + AI: Gemini, GitHub Copilot (and experimenting with more) **What we expect from you:** You should possess a robust technical background, with experience in developing end-to-end solutions for high-scale web applications. Your primary expertise should be in backend architecture and cloud-native services, ideally within highly scalable cloud systems. A basic understanding of frontend is also a plus. You thrive on collaboration, enjoying close teamwork with Product and UX teams to devise pragmatic solutions that effectively address key user needs while maintaining technical quality. As a dedicated servant leader, you have a proven track record of guiding engineering teams with expertise and confidence, serving as a capable and inspiring captain. The role requires a blend of technical and product skills. You will need to understand how to drive the technical direction, and also understand our users and their needs. You should be motivated and excited by the challenge of modernizing an existing system, embracing the complexities of a brownfield situation rather than a greenfield one. However, modernization often involves creating new services.
