This position is an onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. This opportunity involves leading the end-to-end management of complex manufacturing and production engineering projects, from initial planning through to successful execution and completion. The role is responsible for overseeing engineering processes to ensure strict adherence to quality and regulatory standards, while guiding a diverse team toward achieving operational excellence. A key focus is on driving continuous improvement by optimizing resources and cultivating a culture centered on development and innovation within the organization.

 This is an onsite opportunity in Austin,TX or Buffalo Grove, IL.

What You’ll Work On 

Manages the planning, design, and development of manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and process development products to meet production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality.Oversees multiple engineering projects across disciplines, ensuring they are completed within time and budget, while maintaining financial and performance accountabilityProvides leadership on project prioritization, process validations, and continuous improvement activities to enhance technical capabilities.Implements and manages resource planning and project management tools, coordinating project engineers for Operations projects.Supports continuing production, process development, and new product introductions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.Responsible for operational efficiencies and optimizations into manufacturing processesMonitors and evaluates project and department progress, making adjustments as needed to meet business demands.Leads and participates in cross-functional teams to support organizational goals and facilitate collaboration.Reviews and approves protocols, written reports, and technical documentation in accordance with business standards.Prepares and manages departmental budgets, controlling expenditures to stay within approved spending limits.Analyzes complex designs or processes, ensuring functional requirements are met and coordinating the implementation of multiple projects across disciplines.Develops and communicate strategies, policies, and procedures to implement within the managed area.Proactively identifies and influences changes in technology and industry trends to maintain technical leadership.Establishes and fosters a development culture by encouraging feedback, mentoring, and coaching to improve team performance.Evaluates risk/reward trade-offs and makes contingency plans to ensure project success.Prepares and presents key reports, analysis, and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.Directs operations by coordinating efforts across multiple groups, making timely decisions, and ensuring high performance and accountability.Hires, retains, and develops a diverse, highly qualified engineering staff, providing ongoing performance feedback and coaching.Maintains positive and cooperative communications with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.Develops and implements engineering systems and procedures to ensure compliance with FDA, GMP, and other applicable regulations.Ensures a safe work environment consistent with Environmental, Health & Safety requirements and company policies.

Required Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or adjacent technical field. 7-9 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.Extensive background in the area of manufacturing, with particular emphasis on manufacturing engineering, development of equipment, automation and tooling.This experience must include leadership of complex programs with extensive staff management and cross functional organizational influence.Strong program management experience with proven success in managing cross functional technical projects.Demonstrated technical leadership in the form of application of innovative engineering solutions to manufacturing and product challenges.Experience with project budgeting and cost tracking.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical content to non-technical audiences.Knowledge of industry standards and regulations to the extent necessary to manage and direct department and achieve goals.Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies and audits.Demonstrated a sound knowledge of injection molding, tool design, validation activities for medical device componentsDemonstrated a clear strategy for performance improvements at suppliers for production output, improve quality, support CAPA activities and monitored for effectiveness.

Preferred Qualifications 

Advanced degree preferred.Background in the medical device industry a plus.

The base pay for this position is $111,300.00 – $222,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
