Summary – basic function of the role The Engineering Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for coordinating and overseeing the daily activities of a multidisciplinary engineering team. They lead product development, continuous improvements, and ensure alignment with manufacturing and business objectives. Key duties include team leadership, process optimization, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and managing engineering documentation. The role also involves collaborating with internal departments and external partners, supporting cost estimating, and promoting continuous improvement through lean practices. A strong technical background and leadership experience are essential. Job Duties and Responsibilities Lead and align the engineering team with company goals. Manage a multidisciplinary team for product development and improvements. Coach, mentor, and conduct performance evaluations for team members. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Supply Chain for manufacturability. Oversee project timelines, resources, and engineering infrastructure. Facilitate design reviews and maintain accurate documentation. Drive continuous improvement through lean practices and Kaizen events. Skills and Competencies Leadership & Team Management: Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills. Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of engineering principles (hydraulic and mechanical) and proficiency with CAD, FEM, and risk tools. Project Management: Strong organizational and time-management abilities for overseeing project timelines and resources. Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with teams. Problem-Solving: Analytical skills for troubleshooting and resolving engineering and production issues. Continuous Improvement: Experience in lean practices and driving process optimization. Commercial Awareness: Understanding of cost control and budget management. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements. Education and Experience A completed higher professional or university education in a relevant direction (e.g. Mechanical Engineering or similar). At least 5 years of progressive experience in a Sr. engineering or team lead role, with a significant focus on product design. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Dutch (German is a plus).
