The Storage teams build and operate online stateful systems and abstractions that are reliable, efficient, secure and easy to use for DoorDash Engineering. The teams are responsible for understanding Product Engineering’s evolving needs and developing platform and infrastructure capabilities to serve them. The team currently supports CockroachDB, Cassandra, Kafka, Redis and Amazon Aurora as well as data abstraction services to reduce the complexity of interacting with storage systems for Product Engineers.
About the RoleWe’re hiring an Engineering Manager for our Storage team. You will lead a team of engineers in building, scaling, optimizing, and evolving distributed storage and abstractions solutions that power mission-critical applications at DoorDash. Your team will be responsible for building and maintaining NoSQL databases, abstraction layers, and distributed storage systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability. You will help shape the future of storage, driving innovation in database efficiency, fault tolerance, and operational simplicity, allowing engineers across DoorDash to focus on delivering great product experiences.
You will report into the Senior Engineering Manager of Storage within the CoreInfrastructure Engineering Organization.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will… Lead and mentor a team of engineers focused on scaling and optimizing distributed databases and abstractions. Drive architectural decisions for high-performance, fault-tolerant data abstractions build using NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra) and caching solutions (Redis or Memcached). Collaborate cross-functionally with platform, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure seamless data access, consistency, and reliability. Bring expertise in building and operating high scale systems and open source softwares with a focus on reliability, scalability, efficiency and ease of use Build, sustain, and grow a diverse team to address the growing needs of the organization We’re excited about you because… You have 5+ years of experience in backend engineering, with 2+ years leading engineering teams. You have hands-on experience with one or more large-scale databases (CockroachDB, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or similar). You have a strong track record of hiring, onboarding, and mentoring Senior Engineers. You excel in technical leadership, providing guidance in architecture decisions, performance improvements, and team growth. You are execution-driven, with a proven ability to deliver large-scale distributed storage solutions in fast-moving environments.
