Engineering Group Manager - Thermal Calibration
Job Description

Work Arrangement:

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role:

We are currently seeking experienced and motivated candidates for the role of Engineering Group Manager to lead a Calibration engineering team in the Propulsion Thermal Management team. This team is part of the VMEC-CB Software and Services group. This is a people leader role for a candidate with strong technical skills and will include responsibility for calibration development, testing, and release for all of GM’s Thermal Systems for electrified vehicles. You will work cooperatively with different software and controls teams and cross-functionally with Hardware, Cabin Controls, HVAC Software, Diagnostics, VDDV, Thermal Engineering, HVAC Performance, Thermal System engineering, and Global Performance Integration to deliver world-class thermal controls and software.

What You'll Do:

Manage a group of engineers developing propulsion thermal calibrations

Ensure engineering deliverables (calibration, testing, standard work documentation, etc) are completed efficiently, on-time and with high quality.

Resolve issues with in-development and in-production vehicle programs

Coach and mentor employees.  Create development and learning opportunities for employees and drive high levels of engagement.

Drive the change to virtual development and virtual calibration

Meet annual budget and head count targets for the group

Achieve a set of defined business metrics established for each calendar year

Lead by example, demonstrate GM behaviors and culture

Ensure best practice development processes and standard work are followed

Drive commonization and reduce proliferation

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering or Computer Science

7+ years of work experience

Demonstrated proficiency in leading, mentoring and guiding engineers

Experience with calibration of embedded automotive control systems

Excellent communication, problem-solving and collaboration skills

Experience in development of automotive embedded control systems

Experience in recruiting engineers

Proficient with GM’s vehicle development process

Understanding of Matlab/Simulink for model development and integration

Ability to support some business travel   

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Master’s Degree – Engineering or Computer Science

10+ years of work experience and 2+ years of experience in leading or managing s/w algorithm or controls development teams

Experience with thermal management systems utilizing both coolant and refrigerant systems
