Our client, is a multinational automotive manufacturing corporation that designs, engineers, manufactures, and sells vehicles and mobility solutions, and is seeking a Engineering Group Lead to join their team.
**Job Title:** Engineering Group Lead
**Location:** Kokomo, IN
Summary:
The Engineering Group Lead is responsible for driving continuous improvement in existing production capacity, implementing new capacity, and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of production lines. This role focuses on achieving the highest levels of quality, uptime, and waste elimination through effective quality maintenance programs and deployment of advanced tools.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead a team of engineers to achieve continuous improvement objectives and implement capacity improvements for both new and existing models.
+ Manage projects by creating schedules, maintaining budgets/forecasts, and tracking and closing open issues.
+ Develop and support cost estimates for new and retooling projects.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers during simultaneous engineering activities for new model programs.
+ Source external resources when technical challenges exceed in-house capabilities.
+ Engage actively in project development to reduce or eliminate waste.
+ Drive engine and transmission line processes to meet fully PPAP’d requirements with a minimum of 85% OPE.
+ Lead kaizen events and improvement projects, prioritizing areas of significant waste.
+ Present project and plant reviews to all levels of leadership within the organization.
+ Train, coach, and support the deployment of advanced SPW tools for complex problems, including the use of statistical methods to reduce variation.
+ Provide hands-on troubleshooting support to technical engineers and the maintenance team to improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), MTBF (Mean Time Between Faults), and reduce MTTR (Mean Time to Repair).
+ Ensure all process equipment documentation is up to date, including:
+ Tool and operation sheets
+ Machine and tool drawings
+ PFMEAs (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
+ Control plans
+ OPLs (One Point Lessons)
+ EWOs (Emergency Work Orders)
+ Software backup programs
+ Lead the definition and cataloging of spare parts within the assigned business unit.
Required Skills:
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical).
+ 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience.
+ 3–5 years of supervisory or project management experience.
+ Proven ability to lead and coach process engineers in problem-solving methodologies.
+ Strong communication skills and deep understanding of business metrics.
+ Demonstrated leadership competencies with the ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate across all levels of the organization, including unionized environments.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
+ Willingness to travel 20–40% of the time.
+ Experience creating manufacturing cost studies.
+ Knowledge of machining processes.
+ Must hold a valid driver’s license.
