Engineering Drafting Department Supervisor
Job Description

Position Summary

Responsible for strategic planning, personnel management, and supervision, setting goals, establishing deadlines, documenting and archiving project communications, and determining production standards for the Engineering and Drafting Workshop.

Responsibilities:

Evaluate team members’ performance, provide feedback, and establish continuous improvement plans. Process, document, and systematically archive all project communications (incoming and outgoing). Supervise drafters in various drafting programs. Coordinate external technical support and provide solutions for program issues. Responsible for communicating the list of materials for each project for procurement. Support, assign, and supervise the Drafters in project designs to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met within the estimated time frame. Provide support and guidance to manufacturing plant supervisors and installation project supervisors, evaluate and solve problems to ensure the efficiency and quality of each project. Use software and drafting tools to design prefabricated components in accordance with project requirements. Drawing details include all necessary views and dimensions for precise fabrication and assembly of prefabricated parts and architectural structures. Coordinate the structural analysis, design, and detailing of steel and concrete systems. Supervise project progress and ensure design, safety, and quality standards are met. Ensure workshop drawings comply with engineering-provided designs and that the appropriate materials are used for each project. Work in coordination with the Estimating Department to ensure the effective allocation of resources and materials. Consult and provide guidance to project stakeholders and management regarding engineering requirements for the construction of various designs, modifications, and structural repairs. Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

Understanding of the principles, practices, and tools of civil engineering and construction. Knowledge of design, data recording, and analysis programs such as AutoCAD. Ability to learn other drafting programs. Understanding of materials, methods, and tools for construction and structures. Knowledge of safety standards related to projects. Ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems. Ability to be creative and analytical. Skills in using various computer programs. Extremely detail-oriented and accurate. Strong verbal and written communication skills with internal and external clients. Flexible to new and different learning situations. Ability to work, lead, and supervise a team. Bilingual (Spanish and English).

Education and Experience

Degree in civil or structural engineering. Experience in structural design. Professional engineering license. 5 years of experience supervising a Drafting Department. Experience in drafting and detailing with AutoCAD and other design programs. Availability to travel to the manufacturing plant and installation projects as required.
