At the heart of that transformation journey is the National Engineering and Process Design Team, in which this critical role as Engineering Construction Deployment Director is positioned. This is a senior strategic leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering complex engineering and construction deployment programmes across multiple sites. The Engineering & Construction Deployment Director leads large, multi-disciplinary teams to transform design concepts into fully operational facilities—overseeing the full lifecycle from creation and build through to installation, commissioning, and customer handover.
The successful candidate will be a visionary engineering and construction leader, with deep technical expertise in Mechanical, Electrical, or Construction Engineering, and a strong track record in automation or large-scale building projects. They will be expected to set strategic direction, inspire and coach teams, and engage stakeholders across the business to deliver high-impact, value-driven solutions.
This role requires someone who thrives in complex, fast-paced environments, can lead confidently through ambiguity, and is adept at navigating matrix structures and influencing senior stakeholders across functions including Finance, Commercial, Technology, and HR.

Reporting into the Engineering and Process Design Director.
This is a hybrid working role with a requirement for frequent travel across UK and Ireland, with the flexibility to work from various sites including the Gloucester Manufacturing Facility.
Responsiblities include:
• Lead and inspire engineering and construction teams to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions across automation, plant, and facility development.
• Translate strategic vision into executable deployment plans, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and business objectives.
• Coach and mentor project teams in developing functional design specifications (FDS) and delivery strategies.
• Build and align cross-functional project teams, ensuring clarity of roles, stakeholder engagement, and accountability.
• Develop and grow talent, identifying resource needs, recruiting where necessary, and supporting team development to meet organisational goals.
• Oversee programme planning, ensuring critical paths are identified and delivery milestones are met.
• Lead governance and reporting, using NPDI systems and participating in project reviews to ensure transparency and progress tracking.
• Champion value for money (VFM), guiding teams in supplier selection, procurement strategy, and cost-effective engineering practices.
• Provide strategic oversight of supplier and in-house manufacturing, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery.
• Direct installation and commissioning activities, ensuring risks are managed and progress is communicated effectively.
• Define and communicate customer acceptance criteria, ensuring successful launch and handover planning.
• Drive continuous improvement, encouraging innovation across design, process, procurement, and delivery.
• Ensure compliance leadership, embedding regulatory requirements such as CDM, UKCA, PUWER into project planning and execution.
• Foster constructive relationships with trade unions, ensuring open communication and alignment on workforce matters.
• Lead national deployment operations, ensuring consistent standards across multiple sites and full lifecycle planning for all equipment and facilities
About You
To truly excel in this role, you’ll possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:
• A seasoned engineering or construction leader, qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls & Automation, or Construction Engineering.
• Proven experience in leading large-scale automation or construction/refurbishment projects across multiple sites.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and engage large teams, including contract labour and transient workforces.
• Skilled in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and navigating matrix structures.
• Strong understanding of VFM principles, procurement strategy, and supplier management.
• Deep knowledge of compliance frameworks including CDM, UKCA, PUWER, and experience embedding these into project delivery.
• Comfortable working in complex, fast-paced environments, with the ability to lead through ambiguity and change.
• Fully mobile across the UK and Ireland, with flexibility to work from various sites including the Gloucester Manufacturing Facility.
