Engineer - Transmission Planning Modeling Location: 212 E. 6th Street, Tulsa, OK 74119 Work Designation: Onsite **Job Description** **What You'll Do** + Model transmission or distribution system topology including impedance and facility ratings for lines, generators, and transformers for Medium, High, and Extra High Voltages using AEP-internal modeling database, PSS/E, and ASPEN OneLiner. + Model planned projects and build power flow and short circuit model cases representing future transmission system. + Perform electrical transmission system analysis and fault studies. + Perform activities related to NERC or ERCOT compliance standards. + Review Planning Data Sheets for correctness to ensure proper calculation of transmission line impedance and accurate representation in the power flow and short circuit models. + Troubleshoot power flow cases for resolving island and bus inconsistencies, and update topology and generation and load data changes. + Domestic travel 5% of time to visit RTOs for case building. **What We're Looking For:** Master’s degree in an ABET* accredited electrical engineering program and 2 years of experience that includes: + Modeling transmission, distribution, and generation system topology in bus/branch and breaker/node modeling formats using PSS/E. + Using ASPEN OneLiner and creating change files for new stations and equipment. + Interpreting project scoping documents/one-lines/SCADA diagrams to model transmission/distribution projects identified in power flow studies, rehabilitation, or equipment failure. + Developing steady state power flow cases per RTO requirements to ensure compliance with NERC reliability standard MOD-032. + Identification/Creation/Maintenance of necessary contingency definitions for analyzing reliability and adequacy of the transmission system in support of TPL-001. + Performing power flow analysis/studies using PSS/E. + Performing FAC-008 Facility verification by reviewing system topology and ratings. + Calculating transmission system line and transformer impedances for MV, HV, and EHV applications. + Developing scripts using Microsoft VBA/Python to automate manual, repetitive tasks. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in an ABET* accredited electrical engineering program and 5 years of experience as described above is acceptable. *ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Non-ABET accredited advanced degrees in electrical engineering must be from a university with an ABET accredited bachelor degree program in electrical engineering. Non-ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering must be accompanied by a master’s degree or PhD in electrical engineering from a university with an ABET accredited bachelor degree program in electrical engineering.
