Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has openings for a Tooling Engineer/Principal Tooling Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Clearfield, Utah.

This position will support the B Shift: Mon –  Thur, 2:30 PM – 1:00 AM; noted schedule is approximate and include a 30 minute, unpaid lunch break)

Our team designs Tooling to support Aerospace composite part fabrication, handling, and assembly for the commercial and defense aerospace industries.  Engineers get the opportunity to manage their work from design concept thru implementation.  Our Tooling Team works independently, but interacts closely with safety, engineering, manufacturing, and customers to achieve expectations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provides disposition for discrepant toolingSupervises and supports critical production builds involving technical tooling processesProvides communication between A-shift and B-shift operations to support continuous movement of production critical tasksSupports metrology, tooling transportation and tooling maintenance efforts to facilitate program execution

Secondary Responsibilities:

Supports the tool design group with off-load design projects and tasks which include 3D modeling, 2D drafting and checkingManages tooling projects/assignments from concept thru implementation, to provide production quality aerospace tooling in support of development and production programs.Manages external Tooling Design/Fabrication Shops on Design/Build projectsConcepts and designs special tooling within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) structureUses and/or manages Computer Aided Design (CAD) resources for tooling design (primarily NX)Works with vendors to ensure successful fabrication of toolingWitnesses/approves source inspection of special tooling at supplier locations before acceptanceProofs tooling upon receipt in a production environmentMaintains tooling documentation related to design, analysis, fabrication, and proofingProvides tooling cost/schedule estimates for new tools and or tooling modificationsDocuments stress analysis of tools for compliance to requirementsUses Microsoft applications to communicate and present tooling progress

Our team enjoys a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaboration with internal and external customers.  We work closely with manufacturing engineers, CAD designers, safety, and operations.  We pride ourselves in coming up with new ways to provide tooling that is safe, cost effective, and operationally efficient.

This role may be filled at the Engineer (Level 2) or Principal Engineer (Level 3) based on the qualifications outlined below.

Basic Qualifications:
 

Tooling Engineer (Level 2)

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the businessBachelors Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and a minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience; or Masters Degree in STEM discipline and 0 years of engineering experienceExperience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite partsStrong project management and communication skillsUnderstanding of general metallic fabrication including welding and machiningUnderstanding of and ability to use 3D CAD systemsCapable of creating free-body-diagrams and analyzing tooling for allowable stress and fatigue

Principal Tooling Engineer (Level 3)

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the businessBachelors Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and a minimum of 5 years  relevant engineering experience; or Masters Degree in STEM and 3 years' engineering experience; or PhD and 0 years of engineering experienceExperience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite partsStrong project management and communication skillsUnderstanding of general metallic fabrication including welding and machiningUnderstanding of and ability to use 3D CAD systemsCapable of creating free-body-diagrams and analyzing tooling for allowable stress and fatigue

Preferred Qualifications:

BS in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil EngineeringActive DoD Secret Security ClearanceExperience in an aerospace manufacturing environmentExperience with tooling for composites manufacturing and handlingNX experienceFEA experienceExperience in design of molds, machining fixtures, handling, and assembly tools for composite manufacturing

Salary Range: $70,200.00 - $105,400.00Salary Range 2: $86,600.00 - $130,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
