Caterpillar Inc. seeks Engineer-Design at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523. Responsible for technical development & integration of software & electronics into gas engine systems including: in-cylinder pressure sensing, detonation, gas valves, and gas ecms. Critical part of the delivery of gas engine electrical systems used in ep and oil and gas applications. Follow new product introduction (NPI) and new technology introduction (NTI) development processes for product development including requirements capture, change management, system development and integration, validation, and production readiness. Electronic hardware and software integration in complex engine system projects spanning multiple engine platforms. Deliver integrated & validated electronic systems for gas engines. Coordinate product tests with prove design & prototype build up and test areas. Prepare concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects. Interface with mechatronics, harness design, electronic component design control, service engineering, TCL, gas platform team to capture incoming system requirements & communicate requirements to internal process partners. Drive alignment with electronic component teams ensuring proper resources, velocity, and quality. Ensure all testing and validation activities are planned and worked adequately to ensure high levels of quality. Prepare data, analysis, conclusions, recommendations and present in various design reviews. Design, develop, build, and implement new components, products, or technologies. Research new materials and competitive products. Organize, coordinate, and execute the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes. Assist supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance. Develop and document functional requirements and translating into detailed design documents. Participate in buy-build analysis for product components and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports. Perform manipulations on design objects, such as changing projections and managing drawing layers. Direct matrix computations to transform objects in coordinate space. Monitor processes and procedures of complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met. Control design and development costs of proposed products. Build 3D models with basic materials. Test and evaluate alternative means of production. Use automated tools to design or modify designs of products. Assist in building complex prototypes. REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s, degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus 3 years of experience as an engineer working in engine systems, embedded electrical systems or a related occupation. In the alternative the employer will also accept a Master’s, degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus 1 year of experience as an engineer working in engine systems, embedded electrical systems or a related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) MATLAB; (2) Simulink; (3) CANape; (4) CANalyzer; and (5) Oscilloscope. Telecommuting: 2 days/week.

Summary Pay Range:  

$100,298.00 – $143,520.00
