JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Performs a wide variety of engineering activities associated with transmission line maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations activities in the MS Transmission Grid organization. This includes routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties associated with transmission line systems and operations. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and conduct independent engineering work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to solving problems as they arise. Perform advanced engineering studies and analysis that may be applied to Entergy’s transmission system. Ensure NESC standards are being maintained throughout the transmission system. Apply knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies where necessary. Advise and consult with other field engineering and operations personnel to execute the transmission maintenance plan and respond to transmission line related outages as necessary. Work with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to safely execute the maintenance plan and emergent outages. Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary. Manage and perform both planned and unplanned aerial patrols to identify transmission line issues / damages Design and prepare project job packages for construction. Prepare cost estimates and manage project budgets for the MS Transmission line maintenance projects. Identify and develop projects focused at improving the reliability of the transmission line system..

Minimum experience required of the position:
Engineer I: 0-2 years of experience in an engineering discipline. Engineer II: 2+ years of experience in an engineering discipline. Engineer III: 4+ years of experience in an engineering discipline. Engineer Sr: 6+ years of experience in an engineering discipline.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:
Technical mastery of engineering principles. In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area. Experience in transmission line and power system design and analysis. Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions. Mentor other engineers and technical professionals. Good leadership skills. Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent math skills. Excellent project management skills. Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software. Familiar with National Electrical Safety Codes and National Electrical Code and applications. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Ability to work well under pressure. Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures. Ability to recognize and mitigate hazards within the workplace and on construction sites. Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service. Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base. Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and have the ability to enact change. Ability to work in a team environment. Must be a self-starter and able to work without direct supervision.
DESIRED SKILLS:
Excellent computer skills; Knowledgeable in MS Office toolkit. Experience with PLS-CADD transmission line design software or similar programs. Self-motivated with ability and desire to make good decisions. Able to work cross functional with other personnel, departments and organizations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Project management knowledge and experience
