Title: Test Engineer (grade: 8 or 9)
Report to: Test Engineering Supervisor (Section Chief)– Nabari, in Japan
Basic Function:
The Test Engineer performs engineering work to efficiently provide testing services to transfer knowledge throughout BorgWarner by utilizing and developing measurement and analysis expertise. This involves working with other engineers and managers on defining test requirements, using company standard procedures or developing the measurement systems to determine requested information, as well as coordinating Technicians and Designers to assist in completing requested testing. For training and development purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher-level position.
Nature & Scope:
The incumbent will be expected to perform measurement engineering duties on many forms of rotating machinery, typically power train related. (S)He is expected to work in a research and development environment with mechanical and low voltage electrical equipment to provide valid measurements. This will include:
+ Troubleshooting of rotating mechanical systems and low voltage measurement systems.
+ Working with signal conditioning and data acquisition equipment.
+ Programming of engineering software (MATLAB®, LabVIEW) to facilitate data reduction and analysis.
+ Reducing and analyzing timing drive systems. This includes rotational as well as linear vibrations working in the frequency and time domain.
+ Effectively communicating results and issues verbally as well as in written report form.
Experience & Education:
+ Experience working in Test Engineering field preferred
+ Experience working in Machining/tooling field preferred
+ Experience working with an engine or a power train preferred
+ Automotive industry background – powertrain preferred
+ BS degree in engineering preferred
Principal Accountabilities:
+ Durability/Performance Testing for timing system components.
+ Motoring and Firing Test for an engine.
+ NVH testing for an engine and test stand.
+ Design and development of systems to measure specified quantities.
+ Completion of requested tests within a reasonable time table.
+ Coordinate test fixture design and execution of tests using a Designer and Technician(s), respectively.
+ Reduction and analysis of acquired data.
+ Responsible for the accurate communication of test results and issues with supervisor, engineers, technicians, and test request originators.
Skill Requirements:
+ Ability to understand test equipment and mechanical system.
+ Computer skills (Word, Excel min.).
+ Clear, concise written and verbal communication capability.
+ Good negotiator.
+ Works well with others.
+ Results oriented.
+ Team player.
+ Self-starter.
+ TOEIC score 400 or higher preferred
+ CAD skill preferred.
