The position is responsible for the flow monitoring and leak detection programs; hydraulic modeling for both the water and sewer system; master planning activities; the water infrastructure replacement (WIR) program, the water audit and provide technical support across the Department. Employees at Metro Water Services (MWS) work around the clock to supply, treat, manage, and protect our water resources in a sustainable manner for the benefit of all who live, work, and play in our community. Our dedicated, diverse workforce provides high quality drinking water and the best in wastewater treatment, storm water management, and waste collection services for our customers in the Nashville-Davidson County area. Our employees work together to service more than 210,000 water and 216,000 sewer accounts along with over 150,000 curbside waste collection customers. Typical Duties + Maintains full managerial responsibility for the Planning Section. + Supervises and leads employees, assigning work duties, providing performance evaluations, coaching/counseling, and mentoring. + Performs capacity analyses for new development within the service area. + Develops and manages the water and sanitary sewer master growth plans. + Manages the flow monitoring program. + Manages the leak detection program. + Manages the WIR program including identification and prioritization of projects. + Participates in development of the capital improvements budget for linear water projects. + Serves as a Department technical expert, supporting other divisions in water distribution and wastewater collection systems issues. + Responds to inquiries from consultants, developers, contractors, and citizens on system capacity related issues. + May work on special projects assigned by the Assistant Director. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of progressively responsible post degree engineering experience, including four (4) years as a licensed Professional Engineer and two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience. OR Professional Engineering License and eight (8) years of engineering experience, including two (2) years as a professional engineer and two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience. LICENSES REQUIRED Valid Driver License Professional Engineer's License NOTE: A Professional Engineering License from any state is required to apply for this position; however, the Tennessee Professional Engineering License must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period. Failure to obtain the Tennessee Professional Engineering License will terminate employment. Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
