Engineer 2nd Oper, AC/Refrig
OB FUNCTION: Operates and maintains equipment on scheduled rotating shifts for air conditioning and/or refrigeration. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Operate and maintain assigned chillers and HVAC equipment. • Make periodic tours of assigned equipment and systems within the Central Plant, recording required data. • Monitor water treatment program for cooling equipment. • Report all faults, deficiencies, and unusual occurrences to supervisor. • Respond to emergencies on assigned equipment, performing all tasks necessary for the protection of property and personnel. • Handling and processing classified waste. Maintain written records. • Maintain security and cleanliness in assigned secured work areas. • Responsible for the duties of HVAC Grade II as assigned by Chief Engineer on maintenance days. • Monitor and execute the Lock-out/Tag-out program. • Perform other job-related work as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Be capable of working with the tools of the operating engineer's trade. • Basic knowledge of refrigeration, controls, electricity, chemical treatment and HVAC systems. • Universal CFC certification. Must have or obtain in one year. • Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions. • Must work scheduled rotational shifts, including days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends. EXPERIENCE: Two years’ experience as a mechanic/operator of commercial equipment including HVAC systems required. EDUCATION: High school, technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Ability to write correspondence. • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. SECURITY: Must be a U.S. Citizen, able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbents may work in conditions that require operating industrial machinery/power tools and motor vehicles. Additionally, incumbents may participate in work that requires walking, bending, squatting, and carrying materials throughout the facility. Workplace conditions necessitate following strict safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Work tasks requiring the incumbent to lift weight more than 50 pounds requires two or more persons.
