Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Data Engineer to join our growing team in Johannesburg, South Africa. As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our data infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processesCollaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand data requirements and implement efficient data solutionsOptimise data storage and retrieval systems for improved performance and reliabilityImplement data quality checks and ensure data integrity throughout the data lifecycleDevelop and maintain documentation for data processes and architecturesStay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineeringParticipate in code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of our data infrastructureTroubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in a timely mannerWork closely with cross-functional teams to support data-driven initiatives and projects

QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related fieldMinimum of 3 years of experience in data engineering or a similar roleStrong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQLHands-on experience with big data technologies, including Hadoop and SparkSolid understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL processesExperience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and statistical analysis techniquesFamiliarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BIStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailExcellent communication and collaboration skillsKnowledge of data governance and data quality best practicesRelevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer) are desirableAbility to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environmentStrong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
