We are looking for a skilled and motivated Engine simulation expert to join our control system development team. Our team is developing and maintaining the control systems for all Wärtsilä 4-stroke combustion engines. This role is central to creating and maintaining high-fidelity process models and supporting the development and testing of our automation system. You will be working in one of our development teams and provide expertise for engine model creation and simulation. You will together with the rest of the team be creating engine models suitable for control system development. In your daily work you will interact with team members and other departments withing R&D to gather information on the systems to create and improve the models. The locations for this position are Vaasa, Finland and Turku, Finland. We offer a possibility to hybrid remote work.
Responsibilities and requirements for the position:
• Develop and maintain dynamic process models for 4-stroke combustion engines using GT-Power and MATLAB/Simulink
• Integrate GT-Power models into Simulink using FMU or data-based approaches
• Support the creation and automation of testing processes within Simulink, including Model-in-the-Loop (MiL), Software-in-the-Loop (SiL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) setups
• Collaborate with control system developers to validate functionality against simulation models
• Contribute to continuous improvement of simulation workflows and toolchains
• Participate in requirement management and system modelling of our process models
Qualifications/to be able to succeed in the position we expect you to have:
• MSc or BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or a related field
• Proven experience with MATLAB/Simulink and GT-Power in engine modelling and simulation
• Familiarity with FMU standards and integration techniques
• Understanding of control systems and embedded software testing methodologies
• Excellent teamworking, coaching and communication skills
• Fluency in verbal and written English, our everyday work language is English
