Job Description The Agency You’ll Join The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. Previously, Mayor Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer, state senator, and Brooklyn borough president. The Team You’ll Work With The Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement (ENG), under the Mayor’s Chief of Staff, is a new office dedicated to building the capacity and transforming the culture of NYC government (the City) to engage and mobilize New Yorkers effectively, inclusively, proactively, and consistently. ENG will engage New Yorkers to build civic power, increase transparency, ensure accountability, enhance public confidence, design, and deliver more effective policies and programs. ENG will also focus on those most impacted by injustice and inequity. ENG will ensure that the City coordinates community engagement efforts across agencies and mayoral offices, systematically learns from communities, builds the capacity of all city agency outreach and engagement teams, and advances community-driven solutions in close coordination with the primary engagement offices. The primary engagement offices include: the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit (CAU), the Civic Engagement Commission (CEC), the Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit (PEU), and NYC Service. The Problems You’ll Solve The Engagement Liaison works to advance special projects for the Chief Engagement Officer, coordinate meetings and events, and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Engagement Liaison reports directly into the Chief of Operations at the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Managing a variety of high-priority projects with a focus on cultivating meaningful engagement practices, where community members’ experiences are centered in City event planning. - Supporting strategic priorities, including conducting community engagement for NYC’s Open Government Plan. - Creating and delivering high-quality presentations, progress reports, memorandums, briefings, or other materials to effectively communicate project status, recommendations, and/or findings to various audiences. - Assisting the Chief of Operations and Director for Data and Equity in gathering and reporting engagement field operations data. - Supporting the Chief of Operations with oversight of operational or organizational issues, as well as advising on key projects. - Building trusted relationships with key stakeholders within the organization to generate proper levels of awareness and adoption of the team’s objectives and goals. - Assisting in the planning of resource fairs, town halls, and other community events as needed. - Coordinate with agencies and organizations on outreach strategies and best practices. - Assisting the Chief of Operations with supporting the impact of the core engagement offices: CAU, CEC, PEU, and NYC Service. About You The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements: - You have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and experience working in government, ideally with administrative processes. - You have strong project management and planning skills. - You have the ability to apply strategic and critical thinking and problem-solving skills to complex and dynamic situations. - You have the ability to foster cross-agency collaboration. - You have strong knowledge of New York City neighborhoods, community, and civic organizations. - You have strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in tailoring communication to diverse audiences. - You have the ability to effectively interact with people and partners across all levels within an organization. COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058 Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
