MISSION
Thales Begium (Herstal site) is a world leader in precision guided rocket system for helicopters and jet aircraft and pyrotechnics is one of its key engineering activities. In order to meet its ambitious production and product development roadmap, Thales wants to reinforce its technical team and is looking for a junior engineer who wants to develop himself as an energetic materials engineer.
In the framework of its partnership with RMA (Royal Military Academy), you will join during 9 months the RMA ballistic laboratory (Brussels). During, this training period, with the support of academic professors and researchers, you will dedicate yourself half-time to studying and learning the basic theory of energetic materials and half-time to research & development projects in the benefit of Thales.
After this training period, you will join the Thales Engineering team in Herstal. As an Energetic Materials Engineer at Thales, you will face a wide variety of challenges including all aspects of pyrotechnic, from propulsion to detonation, initiation and pyrotechnical compositions. You will be responsible for the development, design and testing of pyrotechnic systems (motors, warheads and fuzes) used in defense applications, including their mechanical or electronical sides. You will work closely with customers, design office, industrial methods, production and suppliers to ensure that pyrotechnic systems meet performance, safety, and quality requirements. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies.
RESPONSABILITY
Develop and improve rocket motor, warhead and fuze pyrotechnic products, from concept to production, from a pyrotechnical but also mechanical point of viewWork closely with customers to understand their needs and requirements, and develop product specifications accordinglySpecify pyrotechnic requirements to suppliers and manage their development, production and quality controlConduct testing and evaluation of pyrotechnic products, both in-house and at external test facilitiesDevelop and maintain pyrotechnic-related documentation such FMECA, safety, reliability analysisSupport production of in-service pyrotechnic products, including resolving quality issues and developing improvementsParticipate in technical reviews: design reviews, engineering change boards and failure investigationsStay current with industry trends and technological advancements related to energetic materialsPROFILE
