Provides direct patient care prior to and during transport for all patient populations including neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric, guided by protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assess patients with medical conditions and accurately document findings in the patient record.
Prioritize and anticipate patients’ needs; develop and implement individualized plans of care.
Administer interventions in accordance with established protocols and document patients’ responses to treatment.
Continuously evaluate patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary, documenting all findings and interventions.
Prepare and maintain medical equipment and supplies; perform daily checks and ensure restocking and cleaning of the unit after each mission.
Operate and demonstrate proficiency in the use of radios and communication systems.
Assist in the orientation and training of new EMT personnel.
Operate required vehicles safely and in compliance with position responsibilities.
Participate in staffing special events as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the State of Iowa.
One year of recent experience providing direct patient care as an EMT-B preferred.
Valid driver’s or chauffeur’s license required. Must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, be at least 18 years old, and meet eligibility to drive per Iowa state law.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within three months of hire. Acceptable certifications include American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three months of hire.
