The EMS Operations Coordinator oversees the day‑to‑day coordination between pre-hospital EMS providers and the ExeterHospital Emergency Department. This role ensures seamless patient handoff, supports pre‑hospital provider engagement, maintains EMS system readiness, and advances EMS quality improvement initiatives. The coordinator acts as a liaison between local EMS agencies, hospital departments, and regulatory bodies. Reports to department Manager.
**Requirements:**
+ 3 to 5 years Directly related experience
+ Associates Degree
+ BLS
+ Drivers License ‑ valid
+ Required: Minimum of 3 years experience in EMS, ED Nursing, or heathcare operations.
+ Preferred: EMT or Paramedic license; CLS/PALS strong preferred, Experience in EMS Management role.
**Responsibilities:**
1. Serves as the primary point of contact for EMS agencies. Works with State and local EMS groups to build relationships with key State and community partners. Functions as a liaison between Exeter Hospital and the State Bureau of EMS, serving on various committees as appropriate.
2. Builds and maintains strong relationships with local EMS providers, fire/rescue agencies, and regional EMS councils. Communicates hospital changes (e.g., diversion status, ED capacity, trauma activation protocols) to EMS teams. Collaborates with ED Charge nurses and physicians to optimize EMS workflows and address concerns in real time.
3. Facilitates timely and efficient patient transfers from EMS to the ED team. Coordinates EMS vehicle access, offloading zones, and traffic flow within the hospital campus. Troubleshoots and resolves operational barriers impacting EMS efficiency.
4. Develops and oversees EMS Educational programs. Collaborates with the Hospital EMS Medical Director to coordinate hospital‑based education opportunities for EMS personnel. Supports EMS students or ride‑along participants in alignment with hospital policy. Help ensure EMS crews are informed of updated hospital protocols and safety requirements.
5. Supports and adheres to Exeter Hospital policies, procedures, philosophy and mission. Actively monitors and plans for compliance with state, federal and regulatory requirements. Develops policies and procedures based on current best practice and Federal, State trauma and EMS directives.
6. Conducts concurrent monitoring and evaluation of the EMS system by the reviewing of pre‑hospital EMS medical records, participating in ride‑alongs, and other opportunities identified. Develops corrective action plans as appropriate.
7. Maintains quality oversight and transfer agreements with other hospitals and facilities, oversees contracts and agreements related to ambulance services and transportation. Monitors, tracks data, and assists with interfacility transfers. Participates in ED quality assurance and performance improvement projects related to EMS care.
8. Tracks and trends EMS handoff times, door to EKG metrics, and other relevant indicators. Ensures compliance with applicable state EMS regulations, hospital policies, and accreditation standards.
9. Monitors EMS radio and notification systems for incoming calls. Supports the functionality of EMS call‑in systems, communication tools, and secure patient handoff systems. Assists with inventory or coordination of EMS specific equipment or supplies when needed.
10. Participates in hospital emergency preparedness drills and community mass casualty planning and coordinates with EMS and public safety agencies during disaster or surge events.
