Position Overview:

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

Provides education and de-escalation training related to the mental health population in the community, to law enforcement agencies and various departments throughout Capital Health.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling. License eligible, LCSW or LPC preferred.

Experience:

Three years experience in a screening center or other acute mental health program.

Other Credentials:

Drivers License

Knowledge and Skills:

Demonstrated understanding of adult learning styles and instructional methods. Outstanding verbal and written communications skills. Strong presentation, facilitation and group process skills. Demonstrated ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail and presentation software. Organizational Skills.

Special Training:

Permanent NJ State Mental Health Screening Certification obtained within one year of hire. Hand with Care

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProvides in house training as Handle with Care Instructor and provides courses throughout the year for all staff from various departments focusing on de-escalation.Works with nursing and support staff on the medical units to manage the psychiatric behavioral component of medical patients in a timely and appropriate manner through education, contracting and a plan of care.Routinely rounds on medical units, works with nurse managers and staff to provide useful de-escalation skills and training, as well as, providing much needed staff support and education.Provides presentations to both, mental health and non-mental health community providers regarding mental illness and promoting wellness and how to access Screening Center Services in accordance with the State of New Jersey Screening Law as it relates to Screening Center.Provides education to local law enforcement agencies about Screening Center Mobile Outreach Services throughout Mercer County in accordance with the State of New Jersey Screening Law as it relates to Screening Center.Coordinates efforts with Mercer County Prosecutors office and local law enforcement as the point person at Capital Health utilizing the curriculum mandated by the Attorney General in conjunction with the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services for the development of education for officers dealing with people with disabilities, most notably mental health issues.Develops an orientation and training manual for Screeners and assists in orientation of all screeners to ensure continuity in the care being provided to this population.Develops and updates policies and procedures.Develops post regulatory inspections and any action plans/remediation plans when warranted. Co-chairs unit based practice council meeting and develops solutions to unfolding issues. Performs the duties of a Screener when necessary.Participates in administrative on-call rotation, for the Screening Center, when necessary.

Documentation, Compliance and Quality Assurance:

Assists in the collection of outcome data.

Maintains timely, accurate, legible and clear chart documentation according to agency requirements.

Maintains record keeping requirements and assists with chart reviews for Q/A purposes as requested.

Works with data resources and health information products to drive productivity and quality improvement.
