VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center Team is expanding its Emergency and Critical Care Service and is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our Evening Team! Come grow with us and make a difference!
Compensation: $ 28 - 35 /hr and the starting range for technicians is determined by license, skill set, and years of experience in the field
Shift: Full-time opportunities, 3 x 12-hour shifts, Swing / Evening shift.
Sundays required and some holidaysKey Responsibilities:
In this role, you will work alongside our ER Doctors, Specialists, and a supportive team of technicians to provide the best possible care for critically ill and injured pets.
Triage: Perform an initial assessment to evaluate the patient's condition quickly. This includes checking vital signs, assessing for obvious injuries or distress, and gathering information from the pet owner about the situation.
Assist Doctors: Collaborate closely with veterinarians to assist in exams, treatments, and medical procedures for emergency cases.
Venipuncture and IVC Placement: Proficiently perform venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and grow your advanced vascular access techniques
Medication Administration: Safely and accurately administer fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
Team Collaboration: Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients receive optimal care. Maintain open communication with the healthcare team.
Nursing Care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Vigilantly monitor hospitalized patients, identifying subtle changes in their clinical status. Participate in departmental rounds and manage the maintenance of urinary catheters, nasogasrtic tubes, chest and abdominal tubes, as well as nasal oxygen tubes.
Client Education: Provide clear and concise discharge instructions to clients, ensuring they understand the care their furry family member requires after leaving the hospital.
Anesthesia and Sedation Monitoring: Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia to ensure patient safety.
Diagnostic Imaging: Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and assist in capturing radiographs and other diagnostic images.
Laboratory Procedures: Run diagnostics, correlate results with the clinical presentation of the patient and notify Veterinarian of results.
Blood Transfusion Therapy: Including collection, administration, and transfusion reactions.
Administering Oxygen: Flow-by Oxygen, Nasal Oxygen Cannula, or Oxygen Cage.
