The Data Protection Officer & Regional Privacy Professional (the “Position”) will be a full-time position reporting to the Collins Aerospace Assistant General Counsel, Data Privacy. The Position will have a dual designation of serving as a statutory DPO (Data Protection Officer) for the Collins Aerospace entities located in Germany and as the Regional Privacy Professional for Collins Aerospace entities located outside of Germany (i.e., UK, France, Italy, Netherlands, etc.). The candidate must be located in Germany and be fluent in German and English.
At a high level, the Position will monitor compliance and data practices internally to ensure the business and its functions comply with the applicable requirements under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Position will be responsible for staff training, privacy impact assessments / data protection impact assessments, program implementation, internal audits, and related responsibilities. The Position will also serve as a primary contact for supervisory authorities and individuals whose data is processed by the business.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will work closely with the legal, compliance, cyber security functions to develop and monitor policies and standards to ensure implementation and compliance with the company’s policies, procedures, and practices, including the company’s General Corporate Policy (GDP)-24 (Personal Information). Duties will include:
Work with business internal stakeholders in the review of projects and related data to ensure compliance with local data privacy lawsReview and approve privacy impact assessments / data privacy impact assessmentsServe as a primary point of contact and liaison for supervisory authorities on all data protection related matters under the GDPRServe as the primary point of contact for queries in the businessAssist in the review of vendor contracts and consents needed to implement projects in partnership with the business and functionsParticipate in periodic meetings/committees in support of the business’ data privacy, compliance, security, worker relations programsManage and execute data subject rights requestsMonitor changes to local privacy laws and make recommendations when appropriateDevelop and deliver privacy training to various business functionsDevelop strategies and initiatives to ensure engagement with key internal and external stakeholdersAssist in preparing and executing data privacy auditsCollaboration with various businesses and functions to raise employee awareness of data privacy and security issuesMaintain records of processing activities, data security incident logs, privacy impact assessments, security breach responses, complaints, claims or notifications, and data subject rights requestsPerform any other related work in support of and in furtherance of the company’s policies and procedures
REQUIRED SKILLS
Education/Certification:
A university degree or equivalent experience and minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum of 7 years experiencePreferable if the candidate holds a law degree from an accredited law school and is presently licensed to practice law in EU jurisdictionPreferable if the candidate holds at least one Data Privacy certification, such as IAPP CIPP/EU
Professional Experience:
A university degree or equivalent experience and minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum of 7 years’ experiencePreferable if the candidate is a licensed attorney practicing within data privacy or related functionExperience working in or with a large global organization and/or regulated industry
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Strong knowledge of EU data privacy and data protection regulationStrong familiarity with EU supervisory authorities, including Federal Commissioner of Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Commission Nationale de l’Informatique ed des Libertes (CNIL)
Fluent in German and English; fluency in other EU languages (i.e., French) considered a plus
Sufficient knowledge of information technology and data management systems
Strong interpersonal skills and able to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels
Ability to work unsupervised, exercise leadership, and influence action and/or change
Excellent written and presentation skills
Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage time, prioritize work effectively, handle multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
Ability to use independent judgment and strategic thinking in decision making
Ability to collaborate with business leaders and manage across a varied range of businesses and functions in the execution of projects and programs
