MISSION

Thales Belgium (Herstal site) is a world leader in precision guided rocket system for helicopters and jet aircraft. In order to meet its ambitious production and product development roadmap, Thales wants to reinforce its technical team and is looking for an engineer who wants to develop himself as an embedded software.

As an Embedded Software Architect, you will integrate a multidisciplinary team of development within the Engineering department. You will be required, in the context of on firing systems or smart ammunitions, to specify, design, develop, validate and test embedded software. You will have the opportunity to work with innovated systems and tools in a high-tech environment. You will be expected to support multiple projects and as such will require planning and organizing skills.

RESPONSIBILITY

Designs and develops the software architecture for embedded systems and produces architectural and interface documentationEnsures that software architecture stability is maintained across lifecycle phases from Bid to DeliveryDirects and coordinates software architecture studiesApproves the technical, technological, and methodological choices taken in respect of the selected software architectureProvides technical leadership to the software development teamEnsures the integration of the software with hardware componentsBased on upper system specifications, allocates power, processing, data budgets to define a software solutionWrites low- and high-level software requirements and ensures traceability between requirementsMaintains and upgrades existing embedded systemsDevelops software on microprocessors, bare metal or Linux RTOS architectureGuarantees adherence to applicable software and project standards, reuse policy and product development plans; Identifies modelling, simulation and prototyping opportunitiesIs knowledgeable of state-of-the-art software architecture methodology, taking account of future developments;Monitors on-going technological developmentsCoordinates with the Product Design Authority (PDA) in order to make sure that the top down refinement of the solution is consistent with the software strategy and constraints including COTS & OSS selection and components reuseUnderstands and solves the constraints of real-time applications, low/high level communications, multi-tread management, memory concurrency, etc.Uses configuration managements tools (GIT, BitBucket, Jenkins, SonarQube)Ensure code quality (SonarQube) by checking code coverage (test coverage) and verify the software using unit testing procedureDebug low level software using oscilloscopes, debug probesParticipates to internal project reviewsCan defend and clarify the solution’s architecture within the company and with customers

PROFILE

You graduated with a Master’s Degree in Software or Electronic Engineer with 10+ years of experienceYou are architect and senior developer in C and Python language on embedded systems real time application C++ language is a plusYou understand the challenges of embedding real time solution in micro-controllers, bare metal or Linux RTOS architecture (knowledges Yocto and Docker is a plus)You have an experience in multiprocessor applications close to HW and communication systems (CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet TCP-IP and Phy, MIL-STD-1553/1760, ARINC429 …)You are familiar NXP processors, Holt remote terminal interfaces, Lauterbach TRACE32 development tools and SEGGER debug probesYou are a good communicator, you can show pedagogy to support other developersYou are self-motivated and like to take initiativesYou are able to work in an Agile culture and is fully aware of a waterfall / V-model project processes and is familiar with project milestones and reviewsYou enjoy following the latest trends in innovationAn experience in aeronautical, spatial, defence or automotive industry, as well as a knowledge of the standards DO-178, ARP4754 or ISO26262, is a plus.English and French (spoken and written)
