A Durham, NC-based defense technology company is developing disruptive systems in drone-based electronic warfare to give tactical teams a decisive edge in contested environments. They are expanding the team and are looking to add a motivated and skilled Embedded Software Engineer. Candidates with experience in guidance, navigation and control (GNC), RF communications, remote control systems, or anti-jamming technologies are especially encouraged to apply.
This is a unique opportunity to join a small, focused team solving complex technical challenges across embedded systems, radio communications, and tactical software. In this role, you’ll work across flight control, RF systems, and user interface layers. Primary Responsibilities Working as a part of a small, focused engineering team Contribute to system-level integration and flight testing Develop and maintain firmware for drone flight control, navigation, and RF systems on STM32 or similar platforms Design and build android-based ATAK plugins to control and monitor the drone and EW functions Work with RF engineers to interface firmware and RF hardware modules Key Requirements US citizenship or permanent residency status Ideally 10+ years of experience in embedded software development, systems integration, or related engineering fields Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field Experience in microcontroller firmware development, preferably STM32 Confident with peripheral interfaces: USB, UART, I2C, and SPI Familiarity with electronics hardware and hardware/software debugging Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills Preferred Skills Wireless Communication knowledge/experience Verilog or VHDL for FPGA development experience Drone software experience, preferably PX4 and Mavlink Software/Firmware Development, Testing, and Deployment experience Hardware design experience Benefits Competitive base salary Excellent options program Medical, Dental, and Optical Insurance Paid National Holidays and Time Off days A 401-K program Relocation expense support
